Genesis 11: v5-9 The Confusion of All Things
5And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
6And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
7Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.
8So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
9Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
In this passage we see man coming together and beginning the task of staying together. We see man becoming one in every way.
Here is a profound statement by God concerning man and his potential. Now one might ask, “Why would God confound and confuse these people?”
Why would He turn what was called “The Gate of Deity” to “Confusion” ?
“Why would He scatter them just because it seems that they are doing something together?”
Why is God being so harsh on these people?
Here are a few reasons:
1) Man was evil from the beginning – Genesis 3
1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”
2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; 3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’”
4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.
Mankind did not need the serpent to force them to sin. They willfully took from the tree because man has always been only interested in SELF! Even before sin was released into the world!
God says something similar toward mankind that we see in our recent episode.
22 Then the LORD God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”— 23 therefore the LORD God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken. 24 So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.
God had to save mankind from himself and it was through His mercy that we are not eternally lost because of our self love
2) Man is continually evil – Genesis 6:5-7
5 Then the LORD[b] saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And the LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. 7 So the LORD said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.”
First God has sent man out of his original beautiful garden for his own good. Now man has become so corrupt that God has to destroy him in order to save him from self again. It is out of shear mercy that God takes man back down in order to keep him from becoming so deplorable that he has no hope.
3) Man will always be evil – Genesis 11
Now we come to our most recent episode of the depravity of mankind. Man has come together under the rule of Nimrod and because man has become so perverse again, God must do something about it in order to save him. It is also evident that man needed to scatter over the earth because, had he not, there would not have been an avenue, physically for the Promised Seed to be born. Evidently they were all together and had to be separated and repopulated
So we see that in Genesis 3, the Savior is promised.
In Genesis 6, it seems that the bloodline of the Savior is purposely muddled and mankind needed to be brought back to one line, Noah
And now man is scattered so that the lineage of the Savior can be brought forth.
We can learn something from this episode today. In chapter 11 man has come together, not for God, not for a good cause, but to promote self and become gods. Man is in the process of his self love and God just would stand in the way of that.
Yet what could we do as the church, if we, who call Jesus Lord, were together. Could God say such a thing about His church, if she did come together?
What could we do if we were all one?
Granted this means the true church of Jesus.
Who is this church? Who is the real bride of Christ?
Simply those who believe in Jesus Christ as Savior and who are His own. Those who call Him Lord and mean it!!!
Nothing could stand in our way of we were all one!
John 17
1 Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, 2 as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should[a] give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. 4 I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. 5 And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.
Jesus Prays for His Disciples
6 “I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. 7 Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You. 8 For I have given to them the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me.
9 “I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours. 10 And all Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them. 11 Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me,[b] that they may be one as We are. 12 While I was with them in the world,[c] I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept;[d] and none of them is lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled. 13 But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves. 14 I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. 18 As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.
Jesus Prays for All Believers
20 “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will[e] believe in Me through their word; 21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: 23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.
This is the burden of our Lord.
He came to this earth and He died upon the cross in order for us, as believers, to become one in Him, through Him, and only by Him.
He is the Author and Finisher of our faith
Hebrews 12
1Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
It is interesting that, what the first Adam ruined in the garden of Eden, when he decided to choose self over service, when he chose his own love over the love of God.
It is also interesting that the Last Adam, decided to make everything right, in another garden.
Matthew 26
36Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.
37And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.
38Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.
39And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
40And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?
41Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
42He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.
The first Adam chose self. He chose his own way.
The Last Adam chose the will of God and He died for our sins. He chose us!!!!
1 Corinthians 15
45And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.
46Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.
47The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord from heaven.
Romans 5
14Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
15But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.
16And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.
17For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
18Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
19For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
20Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
21That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

Genesis 11: v4-5 The Tower of The Gateway to God
4And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
5And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
The people had come together, they had decided to build a city, a tower, and to make a name for themselves. They had found a place that they liked called Shinar (Genesis 10:8-10)
Gen 11:1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
Gen 11:2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
Gen 11:3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.
Gen 11:4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
Shimar is modern day Iraq. Saddam Hussein, believed that he was Nebuchadnezzar returned, and therefore he thought that he was destined to rule over a new resurrected empire of Babylon. This is why he was in the process of re-building the ancient city so that he could sit on the throne of the new Babylon as the new reincarnated King. Daniel 4:33 explains how his unfortunate plans would never come about and that he becomes or rather was already insane just as his supposed ancestor Nebuchadnezzar
In 2002 he sought the return of the Ish-tara Gate from Berlin to Iraq, along with copies of thousands of ancient Sumerian tablets from the British Museum.
Saddam sought to turn what would be the New Babylon into what it had and could have been under his two forerunner Kings.
Some believe that a Gnostic religion, the system that would become known as Kaballism (to receive) had flourished because of Nebuchadnezzar when he had looted and leveled Jerusalem and brought the Jewish people back to Babylon. In the book of Daniel, we learn that he sought to meld his own culture with that of Israel
Some claim that Nebuchadnezzar was ordered killed by God because he had opened up some kind of wormhole, or stargate in the fiery furnace, these same folks also believe that Saddam was on the verge of reopening the same gate. They claim that Nebuchadnezzar believed that the Hebrew and Babylonians somehow came from the same Sumerian background and that each held a missing puzzle that, put together could answer many questions as well as open the way for supernatural headway for mankind. They believe that this is why he leveled and looted Israel and that Saddam was in the process of finishing what his reincarnated self had started.
Evidence shows us that this tower that Nimrod had built was, in reality, a Ziggurat, a spectacular, pyramid shaped building that was given over to astrological worship. Among the ruins of ancient Babylon is a building 153 ft high with a 400 ft base. It was constructed with dried bricks in seven layers, which would correspond to what would have been the known planets. Each layer was dedicated to it’s own planet, shown by a certain color. It started from bottom to top and at it’s summit would have been the signs of the zodiac. No one completely knows what went on in these temples and how they were used but they were obviously a place of worship and communication with others and what they believed to be the gods. Nimrod and his wife started what would be called “The Babylonian mystery religion.”
These people, under the leadership of Nimrod, had come together as one and they were capable of anything, but their old perverse sinful nature took control and through the pattern that follows we can see that the world has never been the same.
When Nimrod died, his mother??/wife Queen Semiramis, saw to it that the Babylonian mystery religion in which he figured prominently continued on. Once he was dead, she deified him as the Sun-god, the father of creation. In various cultures he later became known as Baal, the Great Life Giver, the god of fire, Baalim, Bel, Molech, etc and Semiramis became the goddess of the moon, fertility, etc.
“In the old fables of the Mystery cults, their ’savior’ Tammuz, was worshipped with various rites at the Spring season. According to the legends, after he was killed by a wild boar, he went into the underworld. But through the weeping of his mother… he mystically revived in the springing forth of the vegetation – in Spring! Each year a spring festival dramatically represented this supposed ‘resurrection’ from the underworld.
Thus, a terrible false religion developed with its sun and moon worship, priests, astrology, demonic worship, worship of stars associated with their gods, idolatry, mysterious rites, human sacrifice, and more.
Basically, almost every vile, profane and idolatrous practice you can think of originated at Babel with Queen Semiramis, the Mother Goddess and Nimrod. As the people scattered from Babel with their different languages, they, of course, used different names for Nimrod (Tammuz) and Semiramis. Some called the Mother Goddess “ISHTAR” (originally pronounced “Easter”). In other lands, she was called Eostre, Astarte, Ostera, and Eastre. Other names for Semiramis, the Mother Goddess include: Wife of Baal, Ashtaroth or Ashtoreth, and Queen of Heaven. The Mother goddess was frequently worshipped as the goddess of fertility – and as a sort of Mother Nature and goddess of Spring and sexual love and birth. She was also worshipped as a mediator between god and man. Sexual orgies and temple prostitutes were often used in her worship and in attempting to gain her favor.
Now we see here Nimrod beginning some weird mystery religion and it comes from a structure created for magic and worship. A pattern begins to show itself when we look at man in his relationship with God and how he relates to our Lord.
1) Man’s desire – To be like God
Genesis 3
1Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
2And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
3But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
4And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
5For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
6And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
The serpent coaxed the first man and woman into eating from the forbidden tree. He told them that they would be “as gods” or like God. They would be equal with God and that is something that they seemed to want because they both ate the fruit from the tree. Also notice what God says in verse 22.
22And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
Man has always wanted to be his own god. He has always wanted to find a way to answer to nothing but his own needs and desires, and what better way that to be your own authority and judge.
We start by taking God’s authority away. We take away the pain and death of sin and replace it with a need for better self-esteem. Before long, everything is ok because “God loves you, no matter what you do or say!!!” after all He created you that way. He created you and He knows that you are weak in that area of sin and desire so just pray it away and then God becomes no more than what man has image-ined. He becomes a god in the image of man.
That is not God.
Yes God loves you, yes He is not mad at you, but He does not like your sin and He will not accept it so stop it!!!! He created us but He did not create us to sin. We sin because we are sinners.
Stop willfully sinning. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ to die for our sins and it is through your weakness, if you are saved, that He is made strong. We live through Him.
This episode ends with man being kicked out of the paradise of God and having that loving fellowship that once was shared between God and man severed.
Also notice the meaning of serpent.
(Strong’s Concordance)
serpent = Hebrew word # 5175: nachash (naw-khawsh’); a snake (from its hiss). From # 5172: nachash (naw-khash’); a primitive root; properly, to hiss,ie: whisper a (magic) spell; generally, to prognosticate: to practice divination, to divine, to observe signs, to learn by experience, to diligently observe, to practice fortune telling, to take as an omen.
Man’s eyes are opened in that now he has experienced something that he will never be able to overcome alone through the subtly of this old serpent. He now understands that there is good and evil in the world.
This experience has left man devastated
2) Man’s desire – To act like God
Genesis 4
1And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.
2And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
3And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.
4And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
5But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
6And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
7If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
8And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
Sin has already started it’s sinister work in the lives of the sons of Adam and Eve. Cain truly lived up to his name and he was a possessed man. Sin and anger got the better of him and he opens man’s eyes once more through acting like God, whether he knew it or not, by taking his brother’s life. It was anger aimed toward God but carried out upon Abel because God did not accept the “work” of Cain’s hands. In other words, God would not accept his self-made, man-centered worship.
Cain was extradited from the presence of God but not after he opened man’s eyes to murder and blood lust.
3) Man’s desire – To Be God
and here man has built this vast tower “to make a name for himself”
His eyes are opened towards things that we are not sure of, even now. Man sees that he can be God, not just like God, but sit in the place of God and that he can hold himself together and not be scattered, like Cain.
Man has always lived in direct opposition to God, especially when together in an unsaved degenerate state.
He has always tried, like Nimrod, to create his own religion in order to answer to his own god, himself and he has tried to do so in various ways and forms.
1) Strange doctrine
Laws concerning clean and unclean things
Hebrews 13:9
Heb 13:9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.
These days, man has tried to bring a lot of these strange doctrines into his life, in order to feel more godly or god-like and in order to feel more religious.
Some groups rely on these to keep themselves separate from others that they feel are too liberal or compromising
2) The doctrine of the Nicolatians
Rev 2:15 So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.
There were some who taught that it was lawful to eat things sacrificed to idols, and that simple fornication was no sin; they, by an impure worship, drew men into impure practices, as Balaam did the Israelites. Observe, (1.) The filthiness of the spirit and the filthiness of the flesh often go together. Corrupt doctrines and a corrupt worship often lead to a corrupt conversation. (2.) It is very lawful to fix the name of the leaders of any heresy upon those who follow them. It is the shortest way of telling whom we mean. (3.) To continue in communion with persons of corrupt principles and practices is displeasing to God, draws a guilt and blemish upon the whole society: they become partakers of other men’s sins. Though the church, as such, has no power to punish the persons of men, either for heresy or immorality, with corporal penalties, yet it has power to exclude them from its communion; and, if it do not so, Christ, the head and lawgiver of the church, will be displeased with it.
3) Doctrines of men
Colossians 2:20-22 – Things which perish
Col 2:20 Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,
Col 2:21 (Touch not; taste not; handle not;
Col 2:22 Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?
The golden calf
Acts 7:37-43
Act 7:37 This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear.
Act 7:38 This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us:
Act 7:39 To whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,
Act 7:40 Saying unto Aaron, Make us gods to go before us: for as for this Moses, which brought us out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.
Act 7:41 And they made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifice unto the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands.
Act 7:42 Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, O ye house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices by the space of forty years in the wilderness?
Act 7:43 Yea, ye took up the tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your god Remphan, figures which ye made to worship them: and I will carry you away beyond Babylon.
Exodus 32:1-6
Exo 32:1 And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.
Exo 32:2 And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them unto me.
Exo 32:3 And all the people brake off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron.
Exo 32:4 And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
Exo 32:5 And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to the LORD.
Exo 32:6 And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.
Notice the words – Make us gods
Idols from wood
Jeremiah 10:1-5
Jer 10:1 Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:
Jer 10:2 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
Jer 10:3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
Jer 10:4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
Jer 10:5 They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.
Isaiah 44:12-20
Isa 44:12 The smith with the tongs both worketh in the coals, and fashioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with the strength of his arms: yea, he is hungry, and his strength faileth: he drinketh no water, and is faint.
Isa 44:13 The carpenter stretcheth out his rule; he marketh it out with a line; he fitteth it with planes, and he marketh it out with the compass, and maketh it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man; that it may remain in the house.
Isa 44:14 He heweth him down cedars, and taketh the cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest: he planteth an ash, and the rain doth nourish it.
Isa 44:15 Then shall it be for a man to burn: for he will take thereof, and warm himself; yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread; yea, he maketh a god, and worshippeth it; he maketh it a graven image, and falleth down thereto.
Isa 44:16 He burneth part thereof in the fire; with part thereof he eateth flesh; he roasteth roast, and is satisfied: yea, he warmeth himself, and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire:
Isa 44:17 And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image: he falleth down unto it, and worshippeth it, and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou art my god.
Isa 44:18 They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand.
Isa 44:19 And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?
Isa 44:20 He feedeth on ashes: a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?
4) Doctrines of demons
1 Timothy 4:1-5
1Ti 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
1Ti 4:2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
1Ti 4:3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
1Ti 4:4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
1Ti 4:5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
1 Corinthians 10:18-20
1Co 10:18 Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar?
1Co 10:19 What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing?
1Co 10:20 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.
Ezekiel 8:9-18
Eze 8:9 And he said unto me, Go in, and behold the wicked abominations that they do here.
Eze 8:10 So I went in and saw; and behold every form of creeping things, and abominable beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel, pourtrayed upon the wall round about.
Eze 8:11 And there stood before them seventy men of the ancients of the house of Israel, and in the midst of them stood Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan, with every man his censer in his hand; and a thick cloud of incense went up.
Eze 8:12 Then said he unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen what the ancients of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the chambers of his imagery? for they say, The LORD seeth us not; the LORD hath forsaken the earth.
Eze 8:13 He said also unto me, Turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations that they do.
Eze 8:14 Then he brought me to the door of the gate of the LORD’S house which was toward the north; and, behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz.
Eze 8:15 Then said he unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations than these.
Eze 8:16 And he brought me into the inner court of the LORD’S house, and, behold, at the door of the temple of the LORD, between the porch and the altar, were about five and twenty men, with their backs toward the temple of the LORD, and their faces toward the east; and they worshipped the sun toward the east.
Eze 8:17 Then he said unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? for they have filled the land with violence, and have returned to provoke me to anger: and, lo, they put the branch to their nose.
Eze 8:18 Therefore will I also deal in fury: mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: and though they cry in mine ears with a loud voice, yet will I not hear them.
5) The doctrine of Balaam
Revelation 2:14
Rev 2:14 But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.
Numbers 22-25
The women of Moab did what the men couldn’t do
Balack
Numbers 25:1-13
Num 25:1 And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab.
Num 25:2 And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.
Num 25:3 And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel.
Num 25:4 And the LORD said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the LORD against the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned away from Israel.
Num 25:5 And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Baalpeor.
Num 25:6 And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
Num 25:7 And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand;
Num 25:8 And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.
Num 25:9 And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.
Num 25:10 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Num 25:11 Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.
Num 25:12 Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:
Num 25:13 And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.
6) The doctrine of Compromise
Jezebel- Revelation 2:20
Rev 2:20 Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.
Ahab sits on the throne and Jezebel is his wife and it through this compromising king
(1 Kings 16:30-31) we realize that we have come to the very lowest point of spiritual degradation in the history of all the kings of Israel
1) In his marriage to Jezebel
2) To the promotion of Baal worship as the state religion
Jezebel – Her Phoenician name was Abizebel which means “My Father (Baal) is Noble”
The Hebrew scribes deliberately dropped a letter from her name.
So that she would be known forever as Jezebel, meaning, “Lacking honor”"”
She was an exceedingly competent, highly gifted powerful person but she was exceedingly evil
She was princess and priestess of Baal and with her prodding, Ahab had gone further beyond a mere combing of beliefs
Now Ahab had become a full fledged worshiper of Baal
He established an alter, a temple, and wooden images for Baal. The sin that Ahab and Jezebel brought into the nation of Israel was total rejection of the true living God
Ahab probably had the most successful foreign policy that any king ever had except for Solomon. He had a coalition with every kingdom that surrounded them
“North, south, east, and west”
Ahab had named all of his children after Jehovah but he also furthered the progress of the pagan worship of his wife
Baal worship – was related to the guidance of the sun and the fertility of the earth and the sea
There was more than one god in their system
It was associated with the most horrible actions and religious activity
The groves – the high places – were an abomination to God (Psalms 78:56-59)
They would construct a pole and make it look like the genitals
It was associated with sexual immorality and to them, fertility
The prostitutes were made to be priestesses and sleeping with them was considered a religious activity
They were giving lip service to God but living and serving their own fleshy desires and pleasure
7) Sound doctrine
2 Timothy 4:2-5
The doctrine of Jesus Christ
2Ti 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
2Ti 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
2Ti 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
2Ti 4:5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.
Gal 1:6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
Gal 1:7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
Gal 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
Gal 1:9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
This gospel tells us:
Who God is
Jeremiah 10:13
Jer 10:13 When he uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens, and he causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures.
Jer 5:22 Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it?
Psa 33:6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.
Psa 33:7 He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses.

Job 38:20 That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof?
Job 38:21 Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great?
Job 38:22 Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,
Job 38:23 Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?
Job 38:24 By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the earth?
Job 38:25 Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder;
Job 38:26 To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man;
Job 38:27 To satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?
Job 38:28 Hath the rain a father? or who hath begotten the drops of dew?
Job 38:29 Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?
Job 38:30 The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.
Job 38:31 Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?

Job 38:33 Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?
Job 38:34 Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?
Job 38:35 Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go, and say unto thee, Here we are?
Job 38:36 Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the heart?
Job 38:37 Who can number the clouds in wisdom? or who can stay the bottles of heaven,
Job 38:38 When the dust groweth into hardness, and the clods cleave fast together?
Job 38:39 Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lion? or fill the appetite of the young lions,

Job 38:41 Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of meat.
Isaiah 40:12-24
Isa 40:12 Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?
Isa 40:13 Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counsellor hath taught him?
Isa 40:14 With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and shewed to him the way of understanding?
Isa 40:15 Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.
Isa 40:16 And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt offering.
Isa 40:17 All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity.
Isa 40:18 To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him?
Isa 40:19 The workman melteth a graven image, and the goldsmith spreadeth it over with gold, and casteth silver chains.
Isa 40:20 He that is so impoverished that he hath no oblation chooseth a tree that will not rot; he seeketh unto him a cunning workman to prepare a graven image, that shall not be moved.
Isa 40:21 Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?
Isa 40:22 It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:
Isa 40:23 That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity.
Isa 40:24 Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they shall not be sown: yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble.
Isa 45:12 I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded.
Genesis 1:1-5 is our story. We were created perfectly.
We became formless and void. He wants to bring a new creation in us through the Light of the world.
Isa 53:1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
Isa 53:2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
Isa 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
Isa 53:4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
Isa 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
Isa 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Isa 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
Isa 53:8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
Isa 53:9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
Isa 53:10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
Isa 52:13 Behold, my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high.
Isa 52:14 As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men:
Those same Hands were nailed to the cross for our sins. The men who He formed in the womb by those Hands were beating their Creator. The same mankind that He created was now rejecting Him.
He sent his Son to die on the cross for us
Isa 59:15 Yea, truth faileth; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey: and the LORD saw it, and it displeased him that there was no judgment.
Isa 59:16 And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him.
Isa 59:17 For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and an helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloke.
Eph 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
Eph 6:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Eph 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
Eph 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
His children get salvation and righteousness from Jesus Christ the Redeemer!!!!!

Genesis Chapter 5
The fulfillment of the warning from God
(v1-26) The result of the fall of man
The book of the genealogy of….
Gen 5:1 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;
Gen 5:2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.
Gen 5:3 And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth:
Gen 5:4 And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters:
Gen 5:5 And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.
Gen 5:6 And Seth lived an hundred and five years, and begat Enos:
Gen 5:7 And Seth lived after he begat Enos eight hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters:
Gen 5:8 And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years: and he died.
Gen 5:9 And Enos lived ninety years, and begat Cainan:
Gen 5:10 And Enos lived after he begat Cainan eight hundred and fifteen years, and begat sons and daughters:
Gen 5:11 And all the days of Enos were nine hundred and five years: and he died.
Gen 5:12 And Cainan lived seventy years, and begat Mahalaleel:
Gen 5:13 And Cainan lived after he begat Mahalaleel eight hundred and forty years, and begat sons and daughters:
Gen 5:14 And all the days of Cainan were nine hundred and ten years: and he died.
Gen 5:15 And Mahalaleel lived sixty and five years, and begat Jared:
Gen 5:16 And Mahalaleel lived after he begat Jared eight hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters:
Gen 5:17 And all the days of Mahalaleel were eight hundred ninety and five years: and he died.
Gen 5:18 And Jared lived an hundred sixty and two years, and he begat Enoch:
Gen 5:19 And Jared lived after he begat Enoch eight hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:
Gen 5:20 And all the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty and two years: and he died.
Gen 5:21 And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah:
Gen 5:22 And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:
Gen 5:23 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:
This is also in Matthew 1:1
Mat 1:1 The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
Mat 1:2 Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren;
Mat 1:3 And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;
Mat 1:4 And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naasson; and Naasson begat Salmon;
Mat 1:5 And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;
Mat 1:6 And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;
Mat 1:7 And Solomon begat Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia begat Asa;
Mat 1:8 And Asa begat Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram; and Joram begat Ozias;
Mat 1:9 And Ozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Ezekias;
Mat 1:10 And Ezekias begat Manasses; and Manasses begat Amon; and Amon begat Josias;
Mat 1:11 And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon:
Mat 1:12 And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zorobabel;
Mat 1:13 And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor;
Mat 1:14 And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat Eliud;
Mat 1:15 And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob;
Mat 1:16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
Mat 1:17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.
Notice the following verses
Gen 5:1 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;
Gen 5:3 And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth:
Why does it say that Adam begat a son in his own image?
Because everyone is either dead in Adam or alive in Christ
1Co 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
Household salvation is a false theory. We are not saved by proxy, and God does not have any grandchildren.
Adam had been saved (Gen 3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them. )
Yet Seth was born in the likeness of his fallen father, he was born in sin.
Psa 51:5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.
Rom 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
In this verse we see God’s Enoch.
Gen 5:18 And Jared lived an hundred sixty and two years, and he begat Enoch:
Enoch
Enoch expressed a life of fellowship with and obedience to God, as would soon be the case with Noah. He was a strong reminder at the beginning of biblical history that there is a life in God’s presence after death for the people of God.
1) He walked with God.
Gen 5:24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.
2) He pleased God
Amo 3:3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?
Enoch had to be reconciled with God. He had been seperated from God in a sense for 65 years.
He had to come to God, not vice-versa.
He had a new birth and his walk tells us that he had a new nature.
His behavior had changed
1Jo 1:6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
1Jo 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
Enoch was in fellowship with God. Walking means a constant steady progression.
He had faith.
Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
1Pe 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
Enoch had a knowledge of God. It is one thing to talk about God but it is another thing to know God.
Enoch had a working knowledge of God. His faith showed it.
He was a prophet of God
Jud 1:14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,
Jud 1:15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.
Gen 5:24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.
Gen 5:25 And Methuselah lived an hundred eighty and seven years, and begat Lamech:
Gen 5:26 And Methuselah lived after he begat Lamech seven hundred eighty and two years, and begat sons and daughters:
Gen 5:27 And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died.
Gen 5:28 And Lamech lived an hundred eighty and two years, and begat a son:
“Methuselah” means “When he is dead, it shall come”
Enoch must have been given some special revelation from God. Methuselah lived for 969 years longer than any man in the history of the world and through this we see the grace of the Lord.
For man
God was giving man plenty of time to change.
2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
1Ti 2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
For Enoch
The pre-flood believer (pre-trib)
God took him out of the world to keep him from the world
For Noah
The flood (tribulation) believer or Israel.
God saved him apart from the world, apart from man.
He did not cease to be because God took him.
Heb 11:5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
“Translated” – Taking a word from one language and putting it into another without changing its meaning. This means that he was taken into the presence of God
God removed him from earth and took him to heaven.
Enoch is a picture of the believer’s rapture before the tribulation because he was taken before the flood.
1Th 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
1Th 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
1Co 15:51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
1Co 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
The pre-flood condition of the world
1) Probably warm with a pleasant, mild climate.
2) Possible no desert or ice caps.
3) The land surface was probably more extensive, with smaller seas and oceans.
4) Lush vegetation may have thrived worldwide.
5) There was no rain fall. The earth had been watered by dew.
Gen 2:6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.
Now we will look at some questionable teachings about Enoch
Introduction to the Book of Enoch
We first learn of Enoch in Genesis 5 but it leaves us with questions. Hebrews 11 has the answers and Jude quotes Enoch! How did Jude come to know the words of Enoch? They are not in the Bible. The answer of course, is The Book of Enoch. A book which is actually quoted not only by Jude, but also James the natural brother of Jesus.
The quote in (Jude 14-15) & (1 Enoch 1:9) is as follows: “In the seventh (generation) from Adam Enoch also prophesied these things, saying: ‘Behold, the Lord came with his holy myriads, to execute judgment on all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in such an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners spoke against him’.”
What is the Book of Enoch and where did it come from?
Enoch was the grandfather of Noah. The Book of Enoch chapter 68:1 “And after that my grandfather Enoch gave me all the secrets in the book and in the parables which had been given to him, and he put them together for me in the words of the book of the parables.” This makes it possible for the Book to have survived the flood as its not too hard to accept that Noah would have taken his Great Grandfathers writings with him onto the ark.
The Book of Enoch was extant centuries before the birth of Christ and yet is considered by many to be more Christian in its theology than Jewish. It was considered scripture by many early Christians. The earliest literature of the so-called “Church Fathers” is filled with references to this mysterious book. The early second century “Epistle of Barnabus” makes much use of the Book of Enoch. Second and Third Century “Church Fathers” like Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, Origin and Clement of Alexandria all make use of the Book of Enoch. Tertullian (160-230 C.E) even called the Book of Enoch “Holy Scripture”. The Ethiopic Church even added the Book of Enoch to its official canon. It was widely known and read the first three centuries after Christ. This and many other books became discredited after the Council of Laodicea. And being under ban of the authorities, afterwards it gradually passed out of circulation.
At about the time of the Protestant Reformation, there came to be a renewed interest in the Book of Enoch which had long since been lost to the modern world. By the late 1400’s rumors began to spread that somewhere a copy of the long lost Book of Enoch might still exist. During this time many books arose claiming to be the long lost book and were later found to be forgeries.
The return of the long lost Book of Enoch to the modern western world is credited to the famous explorer James Bruce, who in 1773 returned from six years in Abyssinia with three Ethiopic copies of the lost book. In 1821 Richard Laurence published the first English translation. The famous R.H. Charles edition was published in 1912. In the following years several portions of the Greek text surfaced. Then with the discovery of cave 4 of the Dead Sea Scrolls, seven fragmentary copies of the Aramaic text were discovered.
The Book of Enoch is divided into five basic parts, but it is the The Book of Parables (37-71) which gives scholars the most trouble for it is primarily concerned with a figure called “the messiah”; “the righteous one”; “the chosen one” and “the son of man.”
Chapter 46:1-2 [1] There I beheld the Ancient of days whose head was like white wool, and with him another, whose countenance resembled that of a man. His countenance was full of grace, like that of one of the holy angels. Then I inquired of one of the angels, who went with me, and who showed me every secret thing, concerning this Son of man; who he was; whence he was; and why he accompanied the Ancient of days. [2] He answered and said to me, This is the Son of man, to whom righteousness belongs; with whom righteousness has dwealt; and who will reveal all the treasures of that which is concealed: for the Lord of spirits has chosen him; and his portion has surpassed all before the Lord of spirits in everlasting uprightness.”
The opening verses of the Book of Enoch tell us that the revelations in this book were not meant for Enoch’s generation, rather a remote generation, and of course the book would make more sense to the generations after Christ. We know that the early Church made use of the Book of Enoch, but it was then all but lost, until recent times. Perhaps this book was meant for our generation, as it is widely available today after being concealed for over a millennia.
(Enoch 1:1-3) The words of the blessing of Enoch, wherewith he blessed the elect and righteous, who will be living in the day of tribulation, when all the wicked and godless are to be removed. And he took up his parable and said -Enoch a righteous man, whose eyes were opened by God, saw the vision of the Holy One in the heavens, which the angels showed me, and from them I heard everything, and from them I understood as I saw, but not for this generation, but for a remote one which is for to come.
The Book of Enoch describes the fall of the Watchers who fathered the Nephilim. The fallen angels then went to Enoch to intercede on their behalf with God. The remainder of the book describes Enoch’s visit to Heaven in the form of a vision, and his revelations.
Significant parts of the book contain description of the movement of heavenly bodies (in connection with Enoch’s trip to Heaven), and some parts of the book have been speculated about as containing instructions for the construction of a solar declinometer.
Influence from the book has been traced in the Hiberno-Latin poem Altus prosator.

The book of Enoch depicts the interaction of the fallen angels with mankind: “Azâzêl taught men to make swords, and knives, and shields, and breastplates, and made known to them the metals 〈of the earth〉 and the art of working them, and bracelets, and ornaments, and the use of antimony, and the beautifying of the eyelids, and all kinds of costly stones, and all colouring tinctures”.. “Semjâzâ taught enchantments, and root-cuttings Armârôs the resolving of enchantments, Barâqîjâl, astrology, Kôkabêl the constellations, Ezêqêêl the knowledge of the clouds, Araqiêl the signs of the earth, Shamsiêl the signs of the sun, and Sariêl the course of the moon” 1 Enoch VIII v 1. Later Michael, Uriel, Raphael, and Gabriel look down and see the lawlessness caused by the fallen angels and make a petition to God to act. Uriel is sent to Noah to reveal to him the flood that is coming. Raphael is sent to bind Azâzêl, while Michael is sent to bind Semjâzâ and the others.

ENOCH, RULER AND TEACHER
After Enoch had lived a long time secluded from men, he once heard the voice of an angel calling to him: “Enoch, Enoch, make thyself ready and leave the house and the secret place wherein thou hast kept thyself hidden, and assume dominion over men, to teach them the ways in which they shall walk, and the deeds which they shall do, in order that they may walk in the ways of God.”
Enoch left his retreat and betook himself to the haunts of men. He gathered them about him, and instructed them in the conduct pleasing to God. He sent messengers all over to announce, “Ye who desire to know the ways of God and righteous conduct, come ye to Enoch!” Thereupon a vast concourse of people thronged about him, to hear the wisdom he would teach and learn from his mouth what is good and right. Even kings and princes, no less than one hundred and thirty in number, assembled about him, and submitted themselves to his dominion, to be taught and guided by him, as he taught and guided all the others. Peace reigned thus over the whole world all the two hundred and forty-three years during which the influence of Enoch prevailed.
At the expiration of this period, in the year in which Adam died, and was buried with great honors by Seth, Enosh, Enoch, and Methuselah, Enoch resolved to retire again from intercourse with men, and devote himself wholly to the service of God. But he withdrew gradually. First he would spend three days in prayer and praise of God, and on the fourth day he would return to his disciples and grant them instruction. Many years passed thus, then he appeared among them but once a week, later, once a month, and, finally, once a year. The kings, princes, and all others who were desirous of seeing Enoch and hearkening to his words did not venture to come close to him during the times of his retirement. Such awful majesty sat upon his countenance, they feared for their very life if they but looked at him. They therefore resolved that all men should prefer their requests before Enoch on the day he showed himself unto them.
The impression made by the teachings of Enoch upon all who heard them was powerful. They prostrated themselves before him, and cried “Long live the king! Long live the king!” On a certain day, while Enoch was giving audience to his followers, an angel appeared and made known unto him that God had resolved to install him as king over the angels in heaven, as until then he had reigned over men. He called together all the inhabitants of the earth, and addressed them thus: “I have been summoned to ascend into heaven, and I know not on what day I shall go thither. Therefore I will teach you wisdom and righteousness before I go hence.” A few days yet Enoch spent among men, and all the time left to him he gave instruction in wisdom, knowledge, God-fearing conduct, and piety, and established law and order, for the regulation of the affairs of men. Then those gathered near him saw a gigantic steed descend from the skies, and they told Enoch of it, who said, “The steed is for me, for the time has come and the day when I leave you, never to be seen again.” So it was. The steed approached Enoch, and he mounted upon its back, all the time instructing the people, exhorting them, enjoining them to serve God and walk in His ways. Eight hundred thousand of the people followed a day’s journey after him. But on the second day Enoch urged his retinue to turn back: “Go ye home, lest death overtake you, if you follow me farther.” Most of them heeded his words and went back, but a number remained with him for six days, though he admonished them daily to return and not bring death down upon themselves. On the sixth day of the journey, he said to those still accompanying him, “Go ye home, for on the morrow I shall ascend to heaven, and whoever will then be near me, he will die.” Nevertheless, some of his companions remained with him, saying: “Whithersoever thou goest, we will go. By the living God, death alone shall part us.”
On the seventh day Enoch was carried into the heavens in a fiery chariot drawn by fiery chargers. The day thereafter, the kings who had turned back in good time sent messengers to inquire into the fate of the men who had refused to separate themselves from Enoch, for they had noted the number of them. They found snow and great hailstones upon the spot whence Enoch had risen, and, when they searched beneath, they discovered the bodies of all who had remained behind with Enoch. He alone was not among them; he was on high in heaven.[59]
This was not the first time Enoch had been in heaven. Once before, while he sojourned among men, he had been permitted to see all there is on earth and in the heavens. On a time when he was sleeping, a great grief came upon his heart, and he wept in his dream, not knowing what the grief meant, nor what would happen to him. And there appeared to him two men, very tall. Their faces shone like the sun, and their eyes were like burning lamps, and fire came forth from their lips; their wings were brighter than gold, their hands whiter than snow. They stood at the head of Enoch’s bed, and called him by his name. He awoke from his sleep, and hastened and made obeisance to them, and was terrified. And these men said to him: “Be of good cheer, Enoch, be not afraid; the everlasting God hath sent us to thee, and lo! to-day thou shalt ascend with us into heaven. And tell thy sons and thy servants, and let none seek thee, till the Lord bring thee back to them.”
Enoch did as he was told, and after he had spoken to his sons, and instructed them not to turn aside from God, and to keep His judgment, these two men summoned him, and took him on their wings, and placed him on the clouds, which moved higher and higher, till they set him down in the first heaven. Here they showed him the two hundred angels who rule the stars, and their heavenly service. Here he saw also the treasuries of snow and ice, of clouds and dew.
From there they took him to the second heaven, where he saw the fallen angels imprisoned, they who obeyed not the commandments of God, and took counsel of their own will. The fallen angels said to Enoch, “O man of God! Pray for us to the Lord,” and he answered: “Who am I, a mortal man, that I should pray for angels? Who knows whither I go, or what awaits me?”
They took him from thence to the third heaven, where they showed him Paradise, with all the trees of beautiful colors, and their fruits, ripe and luscious, and all kinds of food which they produced, springing up with delightful fragrance. In the midst of Paradise he saw the tree of life, in that place in which God rests when He comes into Paradise. This tree cannot be described for its excellence and sweet fragrance, and it is beautiful, more than any created thing, and on all its sides it is like gold and crimson in appearance, and transparent as fire, and it covers everything. From its root in the garden there go forth four streams, which pour out honey, milk, oil, and wine, and they go down to the Paradise of Eden, that lies on the confines between the earthly region of corruptibility and the heavenly region of incorruptibility, and thence they go along the earth. He also saw the three hundred angels who keep the garden, and with never-ceasing voices and blessed singing they serve the Lord every day. The angels leading Enoch explained to him that this place is prepared for the righteous, while the terrible place prepared for the sinners is in the northern regions of the third heaven. He saw there all sorts of tortures, and impenetrable gloom, and there is no light there, but a gloomy fire is always burning. And all that place has fire on all sides, and on all sides cold and ice, thus it burns and freezes. And the angels, terrible and without pity, carry savage weapons, and their torture is unmerciful.
The angels took him then to the fourth heaven, and showed him all the comings in and goings forth, and all the rays of the light of the sun and the moon. He saw the fifteen myriads of angels who go out with the sun, and attend him during the day, and the thousand angels who attend him by night. Each angel has six wings, and they go before the chariot of the sun, while one hundred angels keep the sun warm, and light it up. He saw also the wonderful and strange creatures named phoenixes and chalkidri, who attend the chariot of the sun, and go with him, bringing heat and dew. They showed him also the six gates in the east of the fourth heaven, by which the sun goes forth, and the six gates in the west where he sets, and also the gates by which the moon goes out, and those by which she enters. In the middle of the fourth heaven he saw an armed host, serving the Lord with cymbals and organs and unceasing voices.
In the fifth heaven he saw many hosts of the angels called Grigori. Their appearance was like men, and their size was greater than the size of the giants, their countenances were withered, and their lips silent. On his question who they were, the angels leading him answered, “These are the Grigori, who with their prince Salamiel rejected the holy Lord.” Enoch then said to the Grigori, “Why wait ye, brethren, and serve ye not before the face of the Lord, and why perform ye not your duties before the face of the Lord, and anger not your Lord to the end?” The Grigori listened to the rebuke, and when the trumpets resounded together with a loud call, they also began to sing with one voice, and their voices went forth before the Lord with sadness and tenderness.
In the seventh heaven he saw the seven bands of archangels who arrange and study the revolutions of the stars and the changes of the moon and the revolution of the sun, and superintend the good or evil conditions of the world. And they arrange teachings and instructions and sweet speaking and singing and all kinds of glorious praise. They hold in subjection all living things, both in heaven and on earth. In the midst of them are seven phoenixes, and seven cherubim, and seven six-winged creatures, singing with one voice.
When Enoch reached the seventh heaven, and saw all the fiery hosts of great archangels and incorporeal powers and lordships and principalities and powers, he was afraid and trembled with a great terror. Those leading him took hold of him, and brought him into the midst of them, and said to him, “Be of good cheer, Enoch, be not afraid,” and they showed him the Lord from afar, sitting on His lofty throne, while all the heavenly hosts, divided in ten classes, having approached, stood on the ten steps according to their rank, and made obeisance to the Lord. And so they proceeded to their places in joy and mirth and boundless light, singing songs with low and gentle voices, and gloriously serving Him. They leave not nor depart day or night, standing before the face of the Lord, working His will, cherubim and seraphim, standing around His throne. And the six-winged creatures overshadow all His throne, singing with a soft voice before the face of the Lord, “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts; heaven and earth are full of His glory.” When he had seen all these, the angels leading him said to him, “Enoch, up to this time we were ordered to accompany thee.” They departed, and he saw them no more. Enoch remained at the extremity of the seventh heaven, in great terror, saying to himself, “Woe is me! What has come upon me!” But then Gabriel came and said unto him, “Enoch, be not afraid, stand up and come with me, and stand up before the face of the Lord forever.” And Enoch answered: “O my lord, my spirit has departed from me with fear and trembling. Call the men to me who have brought me to the place! Upon them I have relied, and with them I would go before the face of the Lord.” And Gabriel hurried him away like a leaf carried off by the wind, and set him before the face of the Lord. Enoch fell down and worshipped the Lord, who said to him: “Enoch, be not afraid! Rise up and stand before My face forever.” And Michael lifted him up, and at the command of the Lord took his earthly robe from him, and anointed him with the holy oil, and clothed him, and when he gazed upon himself, he looked like one of God’s glorious ones, and fear and trembling departed from him. God called then one of His archangels who was more wise than all the others, and wrote down all the doings of the Lord, and He said to him, “Bring forth the books from My store-place, and give a reed to Enoch, and interpret the books to him.” The angel did as he was commanded, and he instructed Enoch thirty days and thirty nights, and his lips never ceased speaking, while Enoch was writing down all the things about heaven and earth, angels and men, and all that is suitable to be instructed in. He also wrote down all about the souls of men, those of them which are not born, and the places prepared for them forever. He copied all accurately, and he wrote three hundred and sixty-six books. After he had received all the instructions from the archangel, God revealed unto him great secrets, which even the angels do not know. He told him how, out of the lowest darkness, the visible and the invisible were created, how He formed heaven, light, water, and earth, and also the fall of Satan and the creation and sin of Adam He narrated to him, and further revealed to him that the duration of the world will be seven thousand years, and the eighth millennium will be a time when there is no computation, no end, neither years, nor months, nor weeks, nor days, nor hours.
The Lord finished this revelation to Enoch with the words: “And now I give thee Samuil and Raguil, who brought thee to Me. Go with them upon the earth, and tell thy sons what things I have said to thee, and what thou hast seen from the lowest heaven up to My throne. Give them the works written out by thee, and they shall read them, and shall distribute the books to their children’s children and from generation to generation and from nation to nation. And I will give thee My messenger Michael for thy writings and for the writings of thy fathers, Adam, Seth, Enosh, Kenan, Mahalalel, and Jared thy father. And I shall not require them till the last age, for I have instructed My two angels, Ariuk and Mariuk, whom I have put upon the earth as their guardians, and I have ordered them in time to guard them, that the account of what I shall do in thy family may not be lost in the deluge to come. For on account of the wickedness and iniquity of men, I will bring a deluge upon the earth, and I will destroy all, but I will leave a righteous man of thy race with all his house, who shall act according to My will. From their seed will be raised up a numerous generation, and on the extinction of that family, I will show them the books of thy writings and of thy father, and the guardians of them on earth will show them to the men who are true and please Me. And they shall tell to another generation, and they, having read them, shall be glorified at last more than before.”
Enoch was then sent to earth to remain there for thirty days to instruct his sons, but before he left heaven, God sent an angel to him whose appearance was like snow, and his hands were like ice. Enoch looked at him, and his face was chilled, that men might be able to endure the sight of him. The angels who took him to heaven put him upon his bed, in the place where his son Methuselah was expecting him by day and by night. Enoch assembled his sons and all his household, and instructed them faithfully about all things he had seen, heard, and written down, and he gave his books to his sons, to keep them and read them, admonishing them not to conceal the books, but tell them to all desiring to know. When the thirty days had been completed, the Lord sent darkness upon the earth, and there was gloom, and it hid the men standing with Enoch. And the angels hasted and took Enoch, and carried him to the highest heaven, where the Lord received him and set him before His face, and the darkness departed from the earth, and there was light. And the people saw, and did not understand how Enoch was taken, and they glorified God.
Enoch was born on the sixth day of the month of Siwan, and he was taken to heaven in the same month, Siwan, on the same day and in the same hour when he was born. And Methuselah hasted and all his brethren, the sons of Enoch, and built an altar in the place called Achuzan, whence Enoch was taken up to heaven. The elders and all the people came to the festivity and brought their gifts to the sons of Enoch, and made a great festivity, rejoicing and being merry for three days, praising God, who had given such a sign by means of Enoch, who had found favor with them.[60]
The sinfulness of men was the reason why Enoch was translated to heaven. Thus Enoch himself told Rabbi Ishmael. When the generation of the deluge transgressed, and spoke to God, saying, “Depart from us, for we do not desire to know Thy ways,” Enoch was carried to heaven, to serve there as a witness that God was not a cruel God in spite of the destruction decreed upon all living beings on earth.
When Enoch, under the guidance of the angel ‘Anpiel, was carried from earth to heaven, the holy beings, the ofanim, the seraphim, the cherubim, all those who move the throne of God, and the ministering spirits whose substance is of consuming fire, they all, at a distance of six hundred and fifty million and three hundred parasangs, noticed the presence of a human being, and they exclaimed: “Whence the odor of one born of woman? How comes he into the highest heaven of the fire-coruscating angels?” But God replied: “O My servants and hosts, ye, My cherubim, ofanim, and seraphim, let this not be an offense unto you, for all the children of men denied Me and My mighty dominion, and they paid homage to the idols, so that I transferred the Shekinah from earth to heaven. But this man Enoch is the elect of men. He has more faith, justice, and righteousness than all the rest, and he is the only reward I have derived from the terrestrial world.”
Before Enoch could be admitted to service near the Divine throne, the gates of wisdom were opened unto him, and the gates of understanding, and of discernment, of life, peace, and the Shekinah, of strength and power, of might, loveliness, and grace, of humility and fear of sin. Equipped by God with extraordinary wisdom, sagacity, judgment, knowledge, learning, compassionateness, love, kindness, grace, humility, strength, power, might, splendor, beauty, shapeliness, and all other excellent qualities, beyond the endowment of any of the celestial beings, Enoch received, besides, many thousand blessings from God, and his height and his breadth became equal to the height and the breadth of the world, and thirty-six wings were attached to his body, to the right and to the left, each as large as the world, and three hundred and sixty-five thousand eyes were bestowed upon him, each brilliant as the sun. A magnificent throne was erected for him beside the gates of the seventh celestial palace, and a herald proclaimed throughout the heavens concerning him, who was henceforth to be called Metatron in the celestial regions: “I have appointed My servant Metatron as prince and chief over all the princes in My realm, with the exception only of the eight august and exalted princes that bear My name. Whatever angel has a request to prefer to Me, shall appear before Metatron, and what he will command at My bidding, ye must observe and do, for the prince of wisdom and the prince of understanding are at his service, and they will reveal unto him the sciences of the celestials and the terrestrials, the knowledge of the present order of the world and the knowledge of the future order of the world. Furthermore, I have made him the guardian of the treasures of the palaces in the heaven ‘Arabot, and of the treasures of life that are in the highest heaven.”
Out of the love He bore Enoch, God arrayed him in a magnificent garment, to which every kind of luminary in existence was attached, and a crown gleaming with forty-nine jewels, the splendor of which pierced to all parts of the seven heavens and to the four corners of the earth. In the presence of the heavenly family, He set this crown upon the head of Enoch, and called him “the little Lord.” It bears also the letters by means of which heaven and earth were created, and seas and rivers, mountains and valleys, planets and constellations, lightning and thunder, snow and hail, storm and whirlwind–these and also all things needed in the world, and the mysteries of creation. Even the princes of the heavens, when they see Metatron, tremble before him, and prostrate themselves; his magnificence and majesty, the splendor and beauty radiating from him overwhelm them, even the wicked Samael, the greatest of them, even Gabriel the angel of the fire, Bardiel the angel of the hail, Ruhiel the angel of the wind, Barkiel the angel of the lightning, Za’miel the angel of the hurricane, Zakkiel the angel of the storm, Sui’el the angel of the earthquake, Za’fiel the angel of the showers, Ra’miel the angel of the thunder, Ra’shiel the angel of the whirlwind, Shalgiel the angel of the snow, Matriel the angel of the rain, Shamshiel the angel of the day, Leliel the angel of the night, Galgliel the angel of the solar system, Ofaniel the angel of the wheel of the moon, Kokabiel the angel of the stars, and Rahtiel the angel of the constellations.
When Enoch was transformed into Metatron, his body was turned into celestial fire–his flesh became flame, his veins fire, his bones glimmering coals, the light of his eyes heavenly brightness, his eyeballs torches of fire, his hair a flaring blaze, all his limbs and organs burning sparks, and his frame a consuming fire. To right of him sparkled flames of fire, to left of him burnt torches of fire, and on all sides he was engirdled by storm and whirlwind, hurricane and thundering.[61]

Man’s present day condition
A) The fallacies
1. Man is dirt and therefore cannot be saved.
2. Man is divine and therefore need not be saved.
B) The facts
1. The natural man
1 Corinth 2:14
All unsaved men (natural) are spiritually depraved.
A) Negative aspects of depravity
1. Depravity does not mean that all unsaved men and women are as depraved as they can become.
2. Depravity does not hold that a sinner has no sense of God or good and evil.
3. Depravity does not teach that an unsaved man can’t admire the noble, or even perform noble acts.
B) Positive aspects of depravity
Romans 8:7-8
1. Depravity means that all sinners are capable of all wicked things.
2. Depravity teaches that no sinner has the power to please God.
2. The carnal man
1 Corinth 3:1-3
Here Paul describes a Christian who is indwelt by the Holy Spirit, but who still allows himself to be controlled by the passion of the flesh.
3. The spirit indwelt man
1 Corinth 2:15
6. His destiny
There is more to this life than life itself
Job 14:1-2,14
Job 19:25-26
Mankind has asked 3 questions through the ages.
1. Where did I come from?
2. Why am I here?
3. Where am I going?
A) False views concerning the destiny of man
1. Nirvana
An Oriental Hindu philosophy that has moved its way into Christianity at times.
This philosophy teaches that at death a man ceases to exist personally and is absorbed by a great life giving principle in the universe.
The small ripple in a large ocean principle
Example: Scientology
The Bible clearly refutes this
1. Man does not cease to exist – Matt 17:3
Moses dies 2,000 years earlier and Elijah had departed over seven centuries back and they both appeared on the mount of transfiguration.
2. Man has a destiny – 1 Corinth 15:12-20
3. Saved men have a different destiny than the unsaved men – 1 Corinth 15:42-49, luke 16:19-31
2. Restorationism or universalism
This belief states that in a future life all men will be given a second chance to make the choice for God that they did not make during their life.
This is refuted by
1. man has a choice – Prov 29:1
2. The choice is clear – Job 3:3
3. God gave us this choice – John 3:16-21
4. His Son Jesus Christ is the only way – John 14:6
3. Materialism
An atheistic belief that man, upon death, forever ceases to be and quietly rots into nothingness.
This has been described as knowing the price of everything but the value of nothing
Man can have victory over death – 1 Corinth 15:50-57
4. Annihilationism
This belief teaches that all the ungodly will someday litterally be uncreated or annihilated by God.
Example: Jehovah’s witnesses
This is refuted by
1. Man will exist in the afterlife – Matthew 25:46
Revelation 14:9-11
5. Soul sleep
This belief states that the soul sleeps between death and the resurrection
This is refuted by
1. We are absent from the body – 2 Corinth 5:6-9
2. We are with Christ – Phil 1:23-24
3. We could possibly have a temporary body in heaven – Revelations 6:9-12
6. Purgatory
The Roman Catholic belief that all those who die at peace with the church but are not perfect must undergo partial and purifying sufferings. However this is only for those who die in venial (lesser) sins because all who die in mortal sins are condemned to hell. this teaches that ones stay in purgatory can be shortened by the gifts or services rendered by their loved ones to the church in their names
This is refuted by
1. man does not need the gifts of a priest – Heb 9:11-14
2. Christ is our one and only High priest – Heb 9;24-28
3. Christ paid the price for our sins – Heb 10:12-17
7. Limbo
Another aspect of Roman Catholic theology which teaches that all unbaptized children and the mentally incapacitated upon death proceed to a place of natural happiness but not heaven
Children and the mentally challenged go to heaven – Matthew 18:1-10
8. Reincarnation
The belief in the rebirth of the soul. this is fundamental to most beliefs in India. As one sows in this life he will reap in the next life. Good deeds result in a better state of rebirth and bad deeds result in a worse state of rebirth.
B) man’s destiny according to Scripture
1) Before the cross
Where was the abode of the dead prior to Calvary?
Most scholars believe that before Christ’s death all men’s souls descended to an abode located somewhere in the earth, usually in its core known as Hades in the New Testament and Sheol in the Old Testament.
There were two sections of Hades, one for the saved and one for the lost. This separated saved section was known as Paradise and at times referred to as Abraham’s bosom. The two sections were separated by a great gulf.
Luke 16:22
Luke 23:43
A number of extremely interesting conclusions may be derived from Luke 16:19-31
A) The activities of angels in carrying believers to their reward.
B) The possibility of a temporary preresurrection body for the saved and unsaved.
C) The irony of an occupant in hell wanting to become a soul winner
D) The nature od the rich mans request to send Lazarus to testify to his lost brothers. This request was denied because it simply would not work.
Christ did raise a man named Lazarus a few months later after telling this to the people and it did not cause anyone to be converted. Actually the Pharisee planned to kill Jesus all the more and if necessary to also murder the resurrected Lazarus.
John 12:10-11
Many think this situation was changed after Christ had made full payment for believer’s sins at Calvary. Many believe that He descended into Hades and depopulate Paradise to bring the Saints to be with Him before their resurrection.
Ephesians 4:8-10
1 Peter 3:18-32
2) After the cross
The situation of the unsaved dead remained and remains the same (Rev 20:11-19)
Unsaved man will remain there until after the millenium (Rev 20:5)
There is a glorious change concerning the state of those who follow Christ
Acts 7:55-60
Phil 1:21-23
2 Corinth 5:8
According to these verses both Stephen and Paul are now in the heavens along with all other believers who have died and all are with Christ.
This place is referred to as the third heaven
2 Corinth 12:1-4
Man is headed for one of two places in the future.
Heaven – Revelation 21-22:1-5
1) The saved can look forward to a better place – 2 Peter 3:10-13
2) Heaven is the place where:
A) Christians will enter into His rest
Psalms 95:7-11
Hebrews 3:7-19, 4:1-10
B) There are many mansions prepared for us
John 14:1-6
C) As Christians we are already citizens
Phillipians 3:20-21
D) We have an inheritance reserved for us
1 Peter 1:3-5
Matthew 25:34
Hell
1) The worldly person is headed for a place of doom – 2 Peter 2:4-11
2) Hell is a place:
Of utter darkness – Matthew 25:30
Of everlasting fire and brimstone – Matthew 25:41, Revelation 21:8
Of everlasting punishment – Matthew 25:46
Of everlasting torment – Luke 16:19-31, Mark 9:43-48
Where the fire is never quenched – Revelation 21:8 (sulfur – such fire is never ending)
Where the darkness is never lightened – Matthew 25:30 (Imagine complete darkness. No contact with anyone or anything except weeping and gnashing of teeth, no form to your surroundings no end and no sides)
Where the anguish is never relieved – Matthew 13:41-42 , Luke 16:24
Where the condition is never changed – Matthew 23:33
Where guilt is never canceled – Luke 16:25-26
Rabbinic Judaism
Gehenna is defined in rabbinic literature. It is sometimes translated as “Hell”, but this doesn’t effectively convey its meaning. In Judaism, Gehenna is not hell, but rather a sort of Purgatory where one is judged based on their life’s deeds. The Kabbalah describes it as a “waiting room” (commonly translated as an “entry way”) for all souls (not just the wicked). The overwhelming majority of rabbinic thought maintains that people are not in Gehenna forever; the longest that one can be there is said to be 12 months, however there has been the occasional noted exception. Some consider it a spiritual forge where the soul is purified for its eventual ascent to Olam Habah (heb. עולם הבא; lit. “The world to come”, often viewed as analogous to Heaven). This is also mentioned in the Kabbalah, where the soul is described as breaking, like the flame of a candle lighting another: the part of the soul that ascends being pure, and the “unfinished” piece being reborn.
[edit]
Ancient Greek religion
Another source for the modern idea of ‘Hell’ is the Greek and Roman Tartarus, a place in which conquered gods, men and other spirits were punished. Tartarus formed part of Hades in Greek mythology and Roman mythology, but Hades also included Elysium, a place for the reward for those who lead virtuous lives, whilst others spent their afterlife in the asphodels fields. Like most ancient (pre-Christian) religions, the underworld was not viewed as negatively as it is in Christianity
Islam
The Muslim belief in jahannam (in Arabic: جهنم) (similar to Hebrew ge-hinnom and resembles that of other Abrahamic religions). In the Qur’an, the holy book of Islam, there are literal descriptions of the condemned in a fiery Hell, as contrasted to the garden-like Paradise enjoyed by righteous believers.
The meaning of jahannam is to do with hotness (whereas in Hebrew Gehenna is said to mean a narrow deep valley). The word for paradise is jannah which means garden.
In addition, Heaven and Hell are split into many levels depending on the actions taken in life, where punishment is given depending on the level of evil done in life, and good is separated into other levels depending on how well one followed Allah (God) while alive.
There is an equal number of mentions of both hell and paradise in the Qur’an.
The Qur’an also says that some of those who are damned to hell are not damned forever, but instead for an indefinite period of time. When Judgement Day comes, the formerly damned will be judged as to whether or not they may enter into Paradise. In any case, there is good reason to believe that punishment in hell is not meant to actually last eternally, but instead serves as a basis for spiritual rectification.[1]

Chinese and Japanese religions
main article: Di Yu, the Chinese Hell and Japanese Hell
The structure of Hell is remarkably complex in many Chinese and Japanese religions. The ruler of Hell has to deal with politics, just as human rulers do. Hell is the subject of many folk stories and manga. In many such stories, people in hell are able to die again.
See Di Yu for more information on Chinese Hell.
The Chinese depiction of Hell doesn’t necessarily mean a long time suffering for those who enter Hell, nor does it mean that person is bad. The Chinese view Hell as similar to a present day passport or immigration control station. In a Chinese funeral, they burn many Hell Bank Notes for the dead. With this Hell money, the dead person can bribe the ruler of Hell, and spend the rest of the money either in Hell or in Heaven.
[edit]
Taoism
Taoism has a slightly nebulous version of Hell. Some claim it has no Hell at all, but – particularly in its home country China – popular belief endows Taoist Hell with many deities and spirits who punish sin in a variety of horrible ways.
[edit]
Hinduism
In Hinduism, there are contradictions as to whether or not there is a hell. For some it is a metaphor for a conscience. But in Mahabharata there is a mention of the Pandavas and the Kauravas going to hell. Hells are also described in various Puranas and other scriptures.
It is believed that people who commit ‘paap’ (sin) go to hell and have to go through the punishments in accordance to the sins they committed. The god Yama, who is also the god of death, is the king of hell. The detailed accounts of all the sins committed by an individual are supposed to be kept by Chitragupta who is the record keeper in Yama’s court. Chitragupta reads out the sins committed and Yama orders the appropriate punishments to be given to the individuals. These punishments include dipping in boiling oil, burning in fire, torture using various weapons etc. in various hells. Individuals who finish their quota of the punishments are reborn according to their karma. All of the created are imperfect and thus have at least one sin to their record, but if one has led a generally pious life, one ascends to Heaven, or Swarga after a brief period of expiation in hell.

Buddhism
As diverse as other religions, there are many beliefs about Hell in Buddhism.
Most of the schools of thought, Theravāda, Mahāyāna, and Vajrayāna would acknowledge several hells, which are places of great suffering for those who commit evil actions, such as cold hells and hot hells. Like all the different realms within cyclic existence, an existence in hell is temporary for its inhabitants. Those with sufficiently negative karma are reborn there, where they stay until their specific negative karma has been used up, at which point they are reborn in another realm, such as that of humans, of hungry ghosts, of animals, of asuras, of devas, or of Naraka (Hell) all according to the individual’s karma.
Zen does not really focus or use the idea of Hell. Rather, consider this koan:
A roshi meets two students in the garden. To them, he asks, “where is Hell?”
“In Heaven,” the first student replies.
The roshi humphs, disappointedly. He then looks at the second.
“In the flower by your foot,” the second replies. He then bends down and kisses it. The first student bows, enlightened.

Bahá’í Faith
Bahá’ís do not accept Hell as a place, but rather as a state of being. “Heaven is nearness to Me and Hell is separation from Me.” – Bahá’u'lláh
The thing is that it doesn’t matter what man tries to create and speculate to make himself feel better. Hell and the lake of fire are real. One day man will either dwell in heaven or hell and it is man’s choice up until the end of their lives. Unsaved man has no one but himself to blame if he does not end up in heaven.

The redemption of God
Genesis 3:9-24
We are now introduced to the redemptive attributes of God.
1) His holiness as He deals with sin
God pronounces a five-fold judgment sentence
A) Upon the man
Genesis 3:17
God curses the serpent, Satan, and the soil, but not mankind
Adam
A) The labor of the toil of the ground
The ground was cursed because of man (the rose had no thorns)
The pain of labor is a reminder of man’s transgression.
B) He would have to work to support his family.
B) Upon the woman
Genesis 3:16
Eve
A) Labor pains are a reminder of Eve’s transgression as well as a reminder of the curse of sin on each person
The heritage of sin moves from father to son in conception
The suffering in childbirth is not so much a direct result of judgment from God but rather the direct result of sin. Sin always causes suffering, sickness, seperation, and sorrow. The woman’s joy in childbirth would be saddened by the pain of it
B) Her desire would be to her husband.
The word deisre can also mean “an attempt to ursurp or control”
We can paraphrase these last two lines as “you will now have a tendency to dominate your husband and he will have a tendency to act like a tyrant over you.” The battle of the sexes has begun as each strives for control or domination over the other. Jesus is the only answer to this problem
C) Upon all nature
Genesis 3:18
The whole earth
The curse was over the whole earth. Suffering was pronounced on man due to his fall and all suffering can be traced back to the fall of man.
The rose now has thorns (Romans 8:19-22)
At this point the scientific principle called “The second law of thermodynamics” came into being. This law states that when energy is transformed from one state to another, some of it is turned into heat energy which becomes useless. In other words, this universe is like a wound up clock that is slowly running down
Psalm 102:26
Hebrews 1:11-12
The curse of death
All sickness is healable except death. We will all die if Jesus tarries (Hebrews 9:27)
In Adam we die.
In Christ we live
Romans 5:12-22
Adam is blamed not Eve
They both are guilty but when Adam partook of sin, He transgressed against God willingly with both eyes open knowing it was sin
Before we had had a pair working together in sweet accord toward God with no sin. Now their eyes were opened and they began to die. They knew that there was something wrong between themselves and God. God expelled them from Eden in an act of grace so they couldn’t eat of the tree of life and remain this fallen state forever with no hope of reconciliation.
D) Upon the serpent
Genesis 3:14
This implies that before this the serpent had some other body form
E) Upon the devil
Genesis 3:15
The thrilling prediction of the cross and the resurrection
We are introduced to the Savior’s great victory over Satan
This all important verse is known as the “Proto-Evangel” The first gospel
Romans 16:20
Isaiah 53:5
When Jesus went to the cross, He was bruised on His heel, meaning He suffered a terrible temporary injury. In His resurrection He defeated His enemy from that moment on. Satan has been living on borrowed time ever since. he has already been defeated and only the announcement needs to be given.
Adam and Eve would experience a 7-fold sentence of their sin.
A) Shame – Gen 3:7
B) Fear – Gen 3:8-10
C) Discord – Passing the buck – Gen 3:12-13
D) Death
1. Physical and spiritual
E) Suffering – Gen 3:16
F) Weariness of labor – Gen 3:17-19
G) Separation – Gen 3:22-24
2) God’s grace is seen as He deals with sinners
A) In seeking Adam (Genesis 3:9)
The Bible is God’s search for man (Luke 15)
In all these parables, a search is called for that which is lost:
For the lost sheep
For the lost coin
For the lost son
Luke 19:10
B) In promising the Savior (Genesis 3:15)
C) In clothing them (Genesis 3:21)
Righteousness and salvation are likened to right clothes
Although we are not specifically told so, it would seem probable that an innocent animal had to die so that Adam and his wife might be clothed
Isaiah 53:5-6
1 Peter 3:18
D) In removing them from the garden (Genesis 3:22-24)
Man’s expulsion from the garden was really an act of grace, because if they had eaten from the tree of everlasting life they would have lived forever in this sinful state with no chance for redemption
Could they have stopped before they took the fruit?
James 1:13-15
When?
Before she even spoke to Satan. Sin does not force itself on the unwilling but is chosen because of its attractiveness (1 Corinthians 10:12-13)
Who does God call for?
“Adam, where are you?”
Each question gives them an opportunity to confess. God knew where they were.
Who told you you were naked?
Have you eaten from the tree?
Adam blames Eve, Eve blames the serpent
How long were Adam and Eve in the garden?
It appears from scripture that they spent a very short time in Eden (Genesis 4:1)
Will we see Adam in heaven?
We know he was created perfect and we know he sinned but was he saved?
A) God clothed Adam and Eve in animal skins
Genesis 3:21
Doubtless some innocent animal had to die for their sins to provide the clothing. this act would have been a type of salvation
Genesis 4:4
Abel knew the right way to worship God by the sacrifice that he gave to God and this seems to assume that he gained this knowledge from Adam who must have learned it from God.
The theories used to explain the fall.
Where the effects of Adam’s fall merely confined to himself or do they continue to make themselves known in our lives today?
1) Liberals – They say it is only a legend
2) Pelagians – They believe that Adam’s sin only affected himself.
3) Arminians – They believe that while Adam’s sin weakened his will to remain sinless, it did not destroy the possibility.
4) Agustines position – Adam’s sin corrupted all mankind
Romans 5:12
In the New Testament Paul distinguishes between sin and sins.
Sin – The root of my problem is a reference to my corrupted nature which I received from Adam,
Sins – The fruit of my problem is a reference to those actions resulting from my corrupted nature.
Romans 3:23
For all have sinned (present tense) in Adam and are (present time, in daily experience) falling short of God’s glory(every day)

The sin of Adam
He became the first sinner (Genesis 3:6)
Romans 5:12
He attempts (at first) to hide his nakedness from God (Genesis 3:8)
We have the first example of man made religion in history. They tried to cover themselves with fig leaves. Religion is any attempt to clothe ourselves apart from the righteousness of Christ. Adam and Eve tried it with fig leaves. Men today try it with education, church membership, baptism, tithing, confirmation, good workd, secret rituals, etc, but all to no avail
Isaiah 64:6
Luke 18:11-12
Christ cursed the fig tree and He denounced religion right after that(Mark 11:12-19). Religion merely covers our sins and it will separate us from God. God searched for man in the garden not man searching for God.
Genesis 3:9
Where are you?
Adam and Eve had eaten the fruit on the tree of knowledge of good and evil and now something had happened. Something was now different between God and man. Adam and Eve knew they were naked and they became embarrassed when they heard God in the garden. So God asks them this question. He didn’t need to know what they had done. He didn’t need to know where they were but man did. Adam needed to know what he had done and he needed to realize it. Sometimes we are oblivious to something that we are doing or have done while we are in the very act of doing it and sometimes we need to speak it, to talk about it to realize what we have been doing. To realize what we have done. This even goes with sin in our lives. Adam needed to know that he had sinned. He needed to know that he had broken fellowship with God and that this fellowship was lost. Now man was in a fallen and sinful state. Of course Adam did realize what he had done and instead of taking the blame he reacted in a way that we all do from time to time. He played the blame game. He told God that it was God’s fault because He had given him the woman.
Am I that way?
Are you?
Do we blame everyone else instead of ourselves. We are told to confess our sins and He will forgive us. He won’t beat us over the head with them. He won’t bring them up again later when we are in a good mood. He won’t dwell on them. (One of the greatest things about the way Jesus dealt with people was that He didn’t dwell on their sins, He dealt with their sins but He didn’t dwell on them)
We need to come to the Lord with a right heart. A heart that is not interested in blaming others. A heart ready to confess and repent and receive renewed fellowship with Him.
So where was Adam?
Was he too busy working?
Where was Adam?
Where was he when Eve was tempted by the serpent?
Was he too busy working?
We all need to work but sometimes we take it to the extreme. I know I did. Many times men feel that work defines them and while an honest days work is good for man, it should not take all his time and energy. I worked alot for a long time. I felt that it was my duty to work and that I had to be at work because things would not get done right without me. I spent long days and some weekends working, thinking that I was helping my family out by making so much money, yet all the while I was actually cutting myself off from my family. I was staying away so I didn’t have to bother with them. I put work before them every time. No question. That does not happen now. I work every day of the week, I do the best I can and I work as though I am working for the Lord but I don’t bring it home and I put my family before work.
What did Adam teach at home?
Did he teach what God said or what he thought God should have said?
Eve added to God’s Word when she had dialogue with the serpent. She added “Do not touch it (the tree) lest you die!”
Where did she get her information? Did she decide this or was she taught by Adam?
Of course we don’t really know but it can help us realize just how much responsibility men and women have in teaching in the home.
If this originated from Adam then she never had a chance. The serpent was able to use this to trick her. You see this is what happens when we try to add legalism to God’s Word. We start out with the right idea. We say “Well God says that women should wear dresses and so I will make it so that all women can wear in church is dresses and if they wear a dress suit or pants, well I will kick them out.”
Or the same with makeup, or music, or men having to speak in wear certain things or pass certain strange tests before being able to teach or preach. The list could go on and on. The problem is that when we put restrictions on ourselves outside of God’s Word. When we want to add to God’s Word to make things even better, we set ourselves up fot trouble because we or others will eventually revolt against whatever has been set up to supposedly help us out.
Where was Adam?
Where am I?
Where are you?
Am I teaching my family what God says or what I think He should have said.
How do you teach your children the Bible?
We are told to teach our children at all times about His Word and I don’t always live up to that. Things get in the way or I let my own problems and worries take me away from this responsibility. Remember men and women. That husband or that wife, those children are a gift from God and He has given them to us because He trusts us enough to let us borrow them to love and cherish. But we are also responsible for them.
Let them learn just how good and gracious the Lord is in our lives.
Genesis 3:11
“Who told you that you were naked?”
Adam and Eve had taken the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. They had given in to the temptation from the serpent and now their eyes wer opened. Now they knew what sin was. They knew what it meant to be against God, to be out of fellowship with Him.
They now had knowledge but it was not the kind of knowledge that God wanted them to know. This was not the knowledge that they would have gained by just being with God, having the right fellowship with Him. They wanted what they didn’t need. They wanted to be like God. They felt that He was holding something back from them, and actually He was, and they wanted it no matter the cost.
So they took the easy way. They took what seemed to be a short cut, if you will and now they were completely in sin, but we can’t beat them up.
When God placed Adam in the garden, He supplied everything for him. Adam lived in complete existence with God. He didn’t need anything, but something had to happen. God placed man in the garden, He supplied for his every need, yet something was missing, and the tree was a symbol for it. Man needed to make a choice otherwise how could man have free will. God placed the tree in the garden and told Adam not to eat the fruit from it. Now there is no way to guess just how many probable different trees that were in the garden or the probable endless variety of fruit for Adam and his wife. Man now had to make a choice. Either it was for God or for his own needs, his own wants and man made that choice.
The serpent told them “You will be like God! You will know what God knows!”
“You will know what He is hiding from you!”
So they took the fruit and they ate it and now their eyes were wide open yet now they were blinded by sin and now they were dying and headed for eternal seperation from God.
How do we know sin?
Through the Law.
The Law is the knowledge of sin.
Romans 3:20
We know sin through the Law.
The Law revives sin
Romans 7:5
The Law strengthens sin
1 Corinthians 15:56
and now every man and woman born from Adam and Eve on is born under sin and marked for death.
We can’t get mad at Adam or blame them because we would have done the same thing or maybe even worse for that matter, the point is that God knew what choice man would make even though man has free will. He knows the end from the beginning and He supplied a Lamb for us. Jesus Christ is called the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
The curse of the tree; the curse on the tree
Now we are in sin, we are not only like the serpent in that we are against God because of sin. We are snakes of sin and we have not only been infected by the venom of transgression we are the snakes because we are sin and we have no way of saving ourselves because we don’t have the antidote.
We are made free from the Law through Jesus Christ(Romans 8:2-4)
1 Peter 2:24
Notice that in Scripture that the cross is called a tree (Galatians 3:10-13)
Jesus came to this earth to die for us. He came to redeem us from the curse of the Law. He became sin, He became a curse for us.
Read John 3:14-18
and Numbers 21:4-9
The children of Israel had been saved by God. He had taken them out of Egypt. He had supplied their way and their provisions, but they continued to complain and whine. So God gives them something to complain about. He sends snakes among them. Fiery snakes (this either refers to their color or the burning of their venom) Many people were bit and many died. They came to Moses and exclaimed “We have sinned against God! Please pray for us and ask God to take these snakes away!” So Moses prayed and God told him to make a serpent and set it upon a pole and anyone who looked at the serpent on the pole would be saved from death.
The Law is like the snakes venom. It teaches us a lesson. Paul calls the Law our schoolmaster (Galatians 3:24-25) The Law is there to make us realize that we are sinners and that we are in need of a Savior because we can’t save ourselves.
And like the children of Israel looked to the serpent on the pole, the snake of sin, we need to look to Jesus (Who became sin for us) because He is the only way to salvation. Jesus took many things for us on the cross.
He took our sins. He became sin for us.
He took our suffering. The suffering that we deserved.
He took our separation. The separation that we were destined for
He took it all for us when He was nailed to the cross.
He heals the death, the sting of sin, but that is just the beginning.
Jesus Christ lives!!! He is not dead. He was raised up from the grave and He lives at the Fathers’ Right Hand. And we live now because He lives. When you accept Jesus as your savior, you are freed from the sting of sin and the hurt of death. He gives us newness of Life. Accept His payment for your sins today and live through Him. Praise the name of Jesus!!!!!!!!!!!
Four lessons from the fig leaves and the fact that God coated them with skins:
1) Man must have adequate covering to approach God.
You can’t come to God on the basis of your good works. You must come just as you are, a sinner
Luke 18:9-14
2) Fig leaves are unacceptable
They are homemade and God does not take a homemade garment
3) God must provide the covering
4) The covering is obtained only through Jesus Christ
John 14:6
He attempts (at last) to hide himself from God (Genesis 3:8) Psalms 139:7
Notice the temptation comes from an outside source. they were not created with a sin nature and they had no reason to know of sin. They had only the ability to choose not to sin and it was the choice to sin that was all the more despicable. This brought on the sin nature of man. Now I have something within me that likes to sin. It isn’t that the devil makes us do anything, it is that we want to
You will be like God
The serpent actually told them the truth. Their eyes were opened but their ability to freely communicate and fellowship with God was disrupted (Genesis 3:8) and he hid from God. The carnal natural man wants to hide from the light (John 3:19-20)

The devastation of all things
The subtly of Satan
Genesis 3:1-6
Satan speaks through the serpent. The Hebrew word for cunning sounds like naked in 2:25
Adam and Eve were naked in innocence. The serpent was crafty and sneaky.
First of all Adam and Eve did not have sex with the serpent. To beguile means to entice
H5377
נשׁא
nâshâ’
naw-shaw’
A primitive root; to lead astray, that is, (mentally) to delude, or (morally) to seduce: – beguile, deceive, X greatly, X utterly.
G2603
καταβραβεύω
katabrabeuō
kat-ab-rab-yoo’-o
From G2596 and G1018 (in its original sense); to award the price against, that is, (figuratively) to defraud (of salvation): – beguile of reward.
He begins by doubting God’s word
Genesis 3:1
“Yea hath God said…?”
Not that he did not use the divine name Yahweh. (Look in Job)
He ends by denying God’s word
Genesis 3:4
“Ye shall not surely die”
The first lie
Lying was Satan’s craft from the beginning (John 8:44)
He called God a liar
The three deadly temptations in this world
1 John 2:15-17
1) The lust of the flesh
She saw that the tree was good for food
2) The lust of the eyes
She saw that the tree was pleasant to the eyes
3) The pride of life
And the tree would make one wise
Jesus would later be tempted in a similar manner by the devil in the wilderness (Matthew 4:3-10)
The two mistakes of Eve
1) She debated with Satan (Genesis 3:1-2)
2) She added to God’s word (Genesis 3:3-5)
How did Eve know God’s command?
Did she know already because she was a part of Adam?
Did she know because Adam told her what God had commanded?
If Adam had told her then was it Adam who actually added to God’s word. This is how you act when you don’t want someone to mess with something. Did Adam tell her “Don’t eat that fruit! Don’t even touch the tree! Stay away from it! God doesn’t even want us to go near it!”
Did he do this because he would leave her alone to go and tend the garden?

Life of Adam and Eve
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
The Life of Adam and Eve is a Jewish pseudepigraphical writing, the original of which was perhaps written around 70 BCE.
Pseudepigraphy
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
(Redirected from Pseudepigrapha)
Pseudepigrapha (from the Greek words pseudos = false and epigrapho = write) describes texts whose claimed authorship is unfounded in actuality. The authenticity or value of the work itself, which is a separate question for experienced readers, often becomes sentimentally entangled in association. Yet few Hebrew scholars would insist that the Song of Solomon was written by the king of Israel, or ascribe the Book of Enoch to the prophet Enoch. Few Christian scholars would insist today that the Second Epistle of John was written by the “Beloved Disciple.” Nevertheless, in some cases, especially for books belonging to a religious canon, the question of whether a text is pseudepigraphical elicits sensations of loyalty and can become a matter of heavy dispute: though the inherent value of the text is not called in question, the weight of a revered or even apostolic author lends authority to a text. This is the essential motivation for pseudepigraphy in the first place.
Pseudepigraphy also covers the false ascription of names of authors to works, even to perfectly authentic works that make no such claim within their text. Thus a widely accepted but incorrect attribution of authorship may make a perfectly authentic text pseudepigraphical.
On a related note, a famous name assumed by the author of a work is an allonym.
These at least are the basic and original meanings of the terms.
There have probably been pseudepigrapha almost from the invention of full writing. For example ancient Greek authors often refer to texts which claimed to be by Orpheus or his pupil Musaeus but which attributions were generally disregarded.
Biblical studies
In Biblical studies, pseudepigrapha refers particularly to works which purport to be written by individuals mentioned in either the Old and New Testaments or by persons involved in Jewish or Christian religious study or history. These works can also be written about Biblical matters, often in such a way that they appear to be as authoritative as works which have been included in the many versions of the Judeo-Christian scriptures. Eusebius of Caesarea Historia ecclesiae 6,12 indicates this usage dates back at least to Serapion whom he records to have said: But those writings which are falsely inscribed with their name (ta pseudepigraphs), we as experienced persons reject…
Many such works were also referred to as Apocrypha, which originally connoted “secret writings”, those that were rejected for liturgical public reading. An example of a text that is both apocryphal and pseudepigraphical is the Odes of Solomon (http://www.miseri.edu/users/davies/thomas/odes.htm), pseudepigraphical because not actually written by Solomon but instead a collection of early Christian (first to second century) hymns and poems, originally written not in Hebrew in the Syriac language, apocryphal because not accepted either in the Tanach nor the New Testament.
But Protestants have also applied the word Apocrypha to texts found in the Roman Catholic scriptures which were not found in Hebrew manuscripts. Roman Catholics called those texts “deuterocanonical“. Accordingly, there arose in Protestant Biblical scholarship an extended use of the term pseudepigrapha for works that appeared as though they ought to be part of the Bibical canon, because of the authorship ascribed to them, but which stood outside both the canons recognized by Protestants and Catholics. These works were also outside the particular set of books that Roman Catholics called deuterocanonical and to which Protestants had generally applied the term Apocryphal. The term accordingly as now used often among both Protestants and Roman Catholics, allegedly for the clarity it brings to discussion, may make it difficult to discuss questions of pseudepigraphical authorship of canonical books dispassionately with an unsophisticated audience.
To confuse the matter, some churches accept books as canonical which Roman Catholics and almost all Protestant denominations consider pseudepigraphical or at best of much less authority. And some churches reject books that both Roman Catholics and Protestants accept. The same is true of some Jewish sects. These are matters more appropriately discussed at Apocrypha.
There is a tendency not to use the word pseudepigrapha when describing works later than about 300C.E. when referring to Biblical matters. But see Gospel of Barnabas, Apocalypse of Pseudo-Methodius, and the author traditionally referred to as the “Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite“—a classic example of pseudepigraphy. There is also a category of modern pseudepigrapha.
Examples of Old Testament pseudepigrapha are the Ethiopian Book of Enoch, Jubilees, both of which are canonical in the Abyssinian Church of Ethiopia); the Life of Adam and Eve and the Pseudo-Philo. Examples of New Testament pseudepigrapha (but here also likely to be called New Testament Apocrypha) are the Gospel of Peter, the attribution of the Epistle to the Laodiceans to Paul, and Acts of Thomas, which few would claim was actually written by Thomas.

Life of Adam and Eve
The Life of Adam and Eve is a Jewish pseudepigraphical writing, the original of which was perhaps written around 70 BCE.
The texts that have survived are later variants written in Greek, Latin, Slavonic, Armenian, Georgian and Coptic (fragments only). These obviously go back for the most part to a single source and contain (except for obvious inserts in individual texts) no undeniable Christian teaching. Each language version contains material unique to itself as well as variations in the texts found in that language in what appears and doesn’t appear. The Greek variant was confusingly and incorrectly called Apocalypsis Mosis ‘Apocalypse of Moses‘ by Tischendorf, its first editor, and the name has stuck.
What appear to be extracts are also found in other later texts such as the Cave of Treasures.
The story begins immediately after Adam and Eve’s exile from the Garden of Eden and continues to the death of Adam and then the death of Eve. There is no trace of the common story found elsewhere that Cain and Abel had twin sisters and Cain’s killing of Abel is passed over quickly. We are told however that Adam and Eve had thirty sons and thirty daughters.
For other pseudepigraphical works about Adam and Eve see Conflict of Adam and Eve with Satan, Apocalypse of Adam and Testament of Adam.
The Adam and Eve Archive is an ongoing project by Gary Anderson and Michael E. Stone to present all the original texts in the original languages and in translation. It currently contains English translations of the most important texts and also a synopsis guide allowing the viewer to easily jump from a section in one source to the parallel sections in other sources
Adam and Eve
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
“Adam” and “Eve” redirect here. For other uses, see Adam (disambiguation) and Eve (disambiguation).
According to the Book of Genesis of the Bible and to the Qur’an, Adam was the first man created by God. Adam’s mate, Eve (or Hawa) was either created from his rib (Genesis 2.21-22), or created at the same time (Genesis 1.27) as Adam, depending on which part of Genesis is read and how it is interpreted. Depending on which tradition is believed, she may or may not have been the first woman, or Adam’s first wife.
Adam—אָדָם in Standard Hebrew, ʾĀḏām in Tiberian Hebrew, and آدم (ʾĀdam) in Arabic—means “man,” “earthy,” or “red.” Eve—חַוָּה (Ḥavva) in Standard Hebrew, Ḥawwāh in Tiberian Hebrew, and حواء (Ḥawwāʾ) in Arabic—means “living.” In Aramaic (חיויה,חיווי,xywy)— means snake.
“God created man [i.e. Adam] in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” According to this account, Adam was absolutely the first man whom God created. He was formed out of the dust of the earth (hence his name, which means “red earth”), and God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and gave him dominion over all the lower creatures (Gen. 1:26; 2:7).
According to the text, he died aged 930 years (the interpretation of how long a “year” is meant to be interpreted is the subject of much debate). Judaism holds the Cave of Machpelah in Hebron as the traditional burial place of Adam and Eve.
Later tales
In the Book of Jubilees, a daughter (Awân) is born to Adam and Eve after the birth of Abel, Seth, a daughter named Azûrâ, and nine other sons who are not named. Cain later marries Awân and Seth marries Azûrâ. But according to Genesis Rabba and other later sources, Cain had a twin sister and Abel had two twin sisters or Cain had a twin sister named Lebuda and Abel a twin sister named Qelimath. In The Conflict of Adam and Eve with Satan, Cain’s twin sister is named Luluwa, and Abel’s twin sister is named Aklia.
There are a number of pseudepigraphical works about Adam and Eve:
· The Life of Adam and Eve in variant versions,
· The Testament of Adam,
· The Conflict of Adam and Eve with Satan,
· The Gnostic Apocalypse of Adam.
According to some traditions, Adam had an earlier mate, Lilith.
A tradition not found in the Bible text holds that the forbidden fruit was an apple. The larynx in the human throat has been called Adam’s apple because of a notion that it was caused by the forbidden fruit sticking in the throat of Adam.
Some Biblical scholars have placed the Garden of Eden in what is now the Persian Gulf region. Others have suggested a location in Anatolia (Asia Minor)). Biblical geography had four rivers flowing from it: Tigris, Euphrates, Pishon and Gihon.
Adam in Islam
The Qur’an tells the story of Adam and Eve mainly in 2:30-39, 7:11-25, 15:26-44, 17:61-65, 20:115-124, 38:71-85. Eve is not mentioned by name in the Qur’an, but referred to as Adam’s spouse; however, her name is given in Islamic tradition as Hawwa, as in Hebrew.
While Adam is regarded as the first human in Islam, he is also seen as a prophet, in the sense that he was one of the people to whom God spoke. In the Qur’an, Allah (God) creates Adam of clay, and then told him “Be!” and he was. When God had announced his intention of creating Adam, the angels expressed dismay, asking why he would create a being that would do evil. But when He “taught Adam the names,” they saw that he knew more than they, and learned from Adam.
When God orders the angels to bow to Adam, the jinn Iblis (approximately equivalent to Satan) refuses due to his pride and is summarily banished from the heavens. However, he promises God that he will lead as many humans astray as he can, to which God replies that those who will it will follow Satan, while those who will it will follow God.
Adam and Eve were sent to live in the Garden of Eden. They were allowed to live as they pleased there, but not to taste the fruit from a certain tree. However, they both eventually succumbed to the temptation of Satan, who promised them immortality if they ate from it, and ate; they then saw their nakedness and covered themselves with leaves. God punished them by sending them out into the earth amid mutual enmity, but then took mercy upon them; warning them not to follow Satan, he promised them that all would be well for those who followed God’s guidance, while those who rejected it would suffer hellfire.
The Qur’an also describes the two sons of Adam (named Qabil and Habil in Islamic tradition, but not mentioned by name in the Qur’an) that correspond to Cain and Abel. Islamic traditions also hold that Adam’s Peak in Sri Lanka has an enormous footprint of Adam.
Liberal movements within Islam have used God’s command to bow before Adam as a means of supporting human rights.
Apocalypse of Adam
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
The Apocalypse of Adam discovered in 1945 as part of the Nag Hammadi Library is a Gnostic work written in Coptic. It has no necessary references to Christianity and it is accordingly debated whether it is a Christian Gnostic work or an example of Jewish Gnosticism. It proclaims some sort of Sethian Gnosticism.
Adam in his 700th year tells Seth how he learned a word of knowledge of the eternal God from Eve and that he and Eve were indeed more powerful than their supposed creator. But that knowledge was lost in the fall when the subcreator separated Adam and Eve. Adam relates how three mysterious strangers brought about Seth’s begetting and so a preservation of this knowledge. Adam then prophecies at length attempts of the subcreator god to destroy mankind, including the prophecy of the great Deluge and of attempted destruction by fire but an Illuminator will come in the end. When the Illuminator comes, thirteen kingdoms proclaim thirteen different standard but conflicting birth legends about the Illuminator, but only the “generation without a king” proclaims the truth.
Non-Gnostic last words of Adam to Seth are found in Conflict of Adam and Eve with Satan, the Life of Adam and Eve and the Testament of Adam.
[ Testament of Adam
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
The Testament of Adam is a Christian pseudepigraphical work extant in Syriac and Arabic. The earliest manuscript is dated to the 6th century, but the text is 4th century CE in origin, probably composed in Edessa. It purports to relate the final words of Adam to his son Seth in which he speaks of prayer and then prophesies both the coming of the Messiah and the Great Flood.
Conflict of Adam and Eve with Satan
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
The Conflict of Adam and Eve with Satan is a Christian pseudepigraphical work found in Ethiopic and Arabic, 5th century CE at earliest.
It was first translated from the Ethiopian version into German by Dillman, “Das christliche Adambuch” (Göttingen, 1853) translated into English by S. C. Malan as The Book of Adam and Eve, also called The Conflict of Adam and Eve with Satan, 1882 London, Williams and Norgate, ISBN 0766145999.
About half of Malan’s translation is included as the “First Book of Adam and Eve” and the “Second Book of Adam and Eve” in the anthology The Forgotten Books of Eden (Alpha House, 1927), a volume many times reissued on its own (ISBN 051730886X, ISBN 1564596362, ISBN 0529033852) and combined with The Lost Books of Eden as The Lost Books of the Bible and the Forgotten Books of Eden (ISBN 0452009448, ISBN 1881316637, ISBN 9995244381).
The work begins immediately after the expulsion from the Garden of Eden and ends with the testmament and translation of Enoch.
Great emphasis on Adam’s sorrow and helplessness in the world outside the garden. The Sons of God who appear in Genesis are identified as the children of Seth and the Daughters of Men as women descended from Cain who successfully tempt most of the Sethites under the instigation of Genum son of Lamech, this Genum seemingly a conflation of the Biblical Jubal and Tubal-Cain.
For other pseudepigraphical books on Adam and Eve see Life of Adam and Eve, Apocalypse of Adam and Testament of Adam.
Other books concerning the life of Adam and Eve are The Apocalypse of Moses
and The Slavonic Adam and Eve
ix 1 And eighteen days passed by; then Satan was wroth and transformed himself into the brightness of angels, and went away to the river
2 Tigris to Eve, and found her weeping, and the devil himself pretended to grieve with her, and he began to weep and said to her: ‘Come out of the river and lament no more. Cease now from sorrow and moans. Why art thou anxious
3 and thy husband Adam? The Lord God hath heard your groaning and hath accepted your penitence, and all we angels have entreated on your behalf, and made supplication to the Lord;
4 and he hath sent me to bring you out of the water and give you the nourishment which you had in paradise, and for which you are crying
5 out. Now come out of the water and I will conduct you to the place where your victual hath been made ready.’
x 1 But Eve heard and believed and went out of the water of the river, and her flesh was (trembling)
2 like grass, from the chill of the water. And when she had gone out, she fell on the earth and the devil raised her up and led her to Adam.
3 But when Adam had seen her and the devil with her, he wept and cried aloud and said: ‘O Eve, Eve, where is the labour of thy penitence?
4 How hast thou been again ensnared by our adversary, by whose means we have been estranged from our abode in paradise and spiritual joy?’
xi 1 And when she heard this, Eve understood that (it was) the devil (who) had persuaded her to go out of the river; and she fell on her face on the earth and her sorrow and groaning and wailing
2 was redoubled. And she cried out and said: ‘Woe unto thee, thou devil. Why dost thou attack us for no cause? What hast thou to do with us? What have we done to thee? for thou pursuest us with craft? Or why doth thy malice
3 assail us? Have we taken away thy glory and caused thee to be without honour? Why dost thou harry us, thou enemy (and persecute us) to the death in wickedness and envy?’
xii 1 And with a heavy sigh, the devil spake: ‘O Adam! all my hostility, envy, and sorrow is for thee, since it is for thee that I have been expelled from my glory, which I possessed in the heavens
2 in the midst of the angels and for thee was I cast out in the earth.’ Adam answered, ‘What dost
3 thou tell me? What have I done to thee or what is my fault against thee? Seeing that thou hast received no harm or injury from us, why dost thou pursue us?’
xiii 1 The devil replied, ‘Adam, what dost thou tell me? It is for thy sake that I have been hurled
2 from that place. When thou wast formed. I was hurled out of the presence of God and banished from the company of the angels. When God blew into thee the breath of life and thy face and likeness was made in the image of God, Michael also brought thee and made (us) worship thee in the sight of God; and God the Lord spake: Here is Adam. I have made thee in our image and likeness.’
xiv 1 And Michael went out and called all the angels saying:
‘Worship the image of God as the Lord God hath commanded.’
And Michael himself worshipped first; then he called me and said: ‘Worship the image of God
3 the Lord.’ And I answered, ‘I have no (need) to worship Adam.’ And since Michael kept urging me to worship, I said to him, ‘Why dost thou urge me? I will not worship an inferior and younger being (than I). I am his senior in the Creation, before he was made was I already made. It is his duty to worship me.’
xv 1,2 When the angels, who were under me, heard this, they refused to worship him. And Michael saith, ‘Worship the image of God, but if thou wilt not worship him, the Lord God will be wrath
3 with thee.’ And I said, ‘If He be wrath with me, I will set my seat above the stars of heaven and will be like the Highest.’
xvi 1 And God the Lord was wrath with me and banished me and my angels from our glory; and on
2 thy account were we expelled from our abodes into this world and hurled on the earth. And
3 straightway we were overcome with grief, since we had been spoiled of so great glory. And we
4 were grieved when we saw thee in such joy and luxury. And with guile I cheated thy wife and caused thee to be expelled through her (doing) from thy joy and luxury, as I have been driven out of my glory.
xvii 1 When Adam heard the devil say this, he cried out and wept and spake: ‘O Lord my God, my life is in thy hands. Banish this Adversary far from me, who seeketh to destroy my soul, and give 2,3 me his glory which he himself hath lost.’ And at that moment, the devil vanished before him. But Adam endured in his penance, standing for forty days (on end) in the water of Jordan.

God and the home
The future is determined by what we do today Especially for our children
Deuteronomy 6:1-7
Colossian 3:18-41
Psalms 127
Ephesians 5:22-6:9
Our values come from generation to generation
1) The close family (extended family)
The first family consisting of siblings and aunts and uncles living together
2) The Nuclear family (reduced)
“Reduced from extended family to the bare minimum of husband, wife, kids” Reduced because of the need for manufacturing jobs to make it
3) The fractured family (now)
“Single parents, children out of control, society is bad”
God established the family unit before anything else
Genesis 1
Families must determine priorities
(priorities=patters=purpose)
“”"Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven”"”
Matthew 6:10
Let God infuse His priorities into ours through prayer and fellowship
Through time His priorities will become our priorities
God’s will in my life is reflected by each day by my priorities
Godly priorities
A) Personal
A personal relationship with God
B) Partner
My relationship with my wife
C) Parent
My relationship with my children
D) Pastoral
My relationship with the church and the outside world
1)Priorities need to be scripturally sound and culturally relevant Jesus was consistently obedient to scripture yet His words were spoke to the culture of those times as well as ours
2)Priorities must be essential (basic) to us
Evident in our lives so that we are able to teach our children to draw near to God Psalms 22
3)Priorities must be personal for us
Consistent in our lives
A) Reverence for God
B) Authority of scripture
C) Witnessing to others
D) Being a friend
E) making wise decisions in God’s will
F) Persistent prayer
Priorities produce patterns
Priorities must be right to produce right patterns
Don’t confuse the ends with the means
1) Our patterns of behavior should build bridges to others
and not barriers
2) Our values will not be the same as the worlds
Our loyalty (values) are determined by Jesus and not others
3) My values will be different than my parents
My children’s values will be different than mine when they grow up Life has a way of teaching us
Our growth and maturity should grow with us
4) What are the ultimate consequences of our patterns
“If I smother my children, they will never be able to function in the world” I can’t always make their choices for them
5) Our task as parents
To help our children learn to make good Godly decisions
Patterns produce priorities
Right patterns produce Godly purpose
1) The purpose of the family unit
We as parents need to establish goals for our children
2) There is no more important ministry then that of the family The family is the core of values in America
3) God is the creator of the family
He is the center and the foundation. We can’t build a family if we ignore biblical truth
4) God is the sustainer of the home
He works through every member of the family
A) Designer
B) Builder
C) Sustainer
5) Only with Jesus will we be able to have a marriage that is right
Husband Old English – House band – Band that holds the house together
Like the metal bands that hold barrels together
The husband has a God ordained place to make sure his wife and family
are taken care of in every way.
Like Jesus cares for the church (1Peter 3:7)
He is our example in all things (Ephesians 5:25)
1) The husband has a priestly responsibility To minister to the spiritual needs of the family
2) The husband provides for his family
By working to support the needs of my family
3) The husband protects the family
By making sure my family (esp. my wife) has a warm safe house to dwell in that provides each member with every need met to be the best they can be.
My love for my wife and children in the home should be my biggest priority.
I should create an environment where they would be able
to grow as they should in love without feeling threatened by me or stronger in their walk
Be considerate – dwell – To reside in a family relationship.
Dwell or reside also has to do with fulfilling sexual duties
The husbands God given role is to take care of every aspect of his family
I am to know my wife as intimately as Jesus knows the church
1) Know her interests
2) Know her needs
I should provide her with a spirit of:
Fulfillment
Contentment
Enjoyment
I should support her with:
Physical support – uplift her
Emotional support – her happiness
Material support – her security
Be courteous – Grant her honor as a fellow heir A woman is not less than a man she is just different. We are help mates to each other. We should appreciate each other in tenderness and courtesy
Be companiable – Be a companion. We should be not only great lovers but great friends. Our greatest honor and relationship is the one between the husband and wife
Wife Old English – Weaver – Weaves the house together
4 essentials for the home
A Christian home is a team working together in love
Where each member lifts the others needs above their own
1) Redemption What the parents think about God and the price Jesus paid Redemption is manifest in a Godly home. Marriage is the union of a man and woman. A husband and wife get closer together as they each get closer to God
2) Roles Where roles are mastered.
Each member functions in the role that God has designed
3) Relationship Where relationships are formed
The interaction of each member to the other
“Example: husband to wife, father to children”
4) Responsibility Where responsibility in the family is met
Where each member accepts responsibility
Submission in the Christian home 1Peter 3:1-7
Submission We have the unique privilidge of being in submission in Jesus.
We have the freedom to be able to respond to others and to minister to their need so that self does not get in the way
Jesus is our main example of submission Galatians 3:28
1Peter 2:11
As a citizen to government
As a servant to his master
The degree of submission in marriage–looking to Jesus
“Jesus – 1Peter 3:7, Colossians 3:18-4:6, 1Corinthians 7:1-16″
Submission for the husband and wife
No one is higher than the other in Christ. Man is head of the household by God but both are one.
The two together are centralized by love
1Peter 3:1-6: – Submissive love – by the wife
The wife is not commanded to love her husband but the husband is
1Peter 3:7 – Supportive love – by the husband
The husband gives supportive love if he wants submissive love
Ephesians 5:22-6:9 – How a Christian husband is to act toward his wife
Which can only come through the Spirit of God
How a man treats his wife is how he truly believes Jesus treats the church
A Christian home is God’s testimony of saving faith to the community
It shows what faith in Jesus should be like
Understand the needs of your spouse
Jesus gives us the freedom to serve and minister to others through love
3 character traits of a Christian in the home
1) Godly conduct (1Peter 3:1-2) Not just words –
Let your faith become so much of your lifestyle that people
know who is in you. Behavior patterns that produce a Godly lifestyle
2) Godly character (1Peter 3:3-4) Far more important than fashion
Dress to compliment the hidden man and worry about the inward
more than the outward. Dress modestly and try to please
your husband or wife in the way you dress.
3) Godly confidence (1Peter 3:5-6) Not cowardice
Show God through our actions and our speech to others
