You can’t serve GOd?!?!

Joshua 24:19-20But Joshua said to the people, “You cannot serve the LORD, for He is a holy God. He is a jealous God; He will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins. If you forsake the LORD and serve foreign gods, then He will turn and do you harm and consume you, after He has done you good.”Joshua was right. No one can truly serve God. He is too righteous for our promises. He is too holy for our best intentions and He does not forgive our transgressions on our merit. We can choose to do good all day long but it does not and will never amount to His holiness, righteousness, and mercy. We can go to church, do all the good deeds in the world, adopt all the homeless children in the world, feed everyone we come in contact with, and never lie or cheat anyone and we would still fall short. It is only through Jesus Christ that we find holiness, right standing with God and mercy. He is the only WAY! We become His workmanship (poem) through Jesus Christ. We are created (recreated) in Jesus Christ for good works, things prepared beforehand, things we are to walk in when we choose to abide in Christ. (Ephesians 2:8-10) Israel was called to follow God in all that He had commanded them to do, not just because He was a big bully but for their own good. God wanted them to put away all that stood between them and Himself. He wanted them to love Him in return and to follow His Words, not because it was for His good but because they would be blessed and benefit from it in the land. They obviously still were holding onto their own gods (v23)“Now therefore,” he said, “put away the foreign gods which are among you, and incline your heart to the LORD God of Israel.” We are called to do the same. It is still a choice that we are to make. Either we decide to abide or we slide into our own walk and strength. We either hold onto our own gods that we make or we let it all go to the God of the universe, the King of Kings, Lord of Lords!!! Anything outside of Christ is failure. It seems to have something to do with laws set up by God that are engrained even into the earth. When God uttered the first words and things came into being, they were deemed “good” These laws, such as gravity, physics, etc can’t be broken regardless of who we think we are. He will not break the law of gravity because we want to tempt him by jumping off a 15 story building because He set these laws in order and He even gives us the meaning of these laws inside ourselves. We know what would happen if we jumped without anyone telling us. It seems that the cursed earth has a limit set be God as to how far a nation, people, tribe can do things against God upon it, before they are expelled and if this is true (I am just thinking out loud) then I wonder as to how much longer this nation has or how much more time we have individuallyLet’s follow Joshua’s example!! Joshua 24:14-15 “Now therefore, fear the LORD, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the LORD!  And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”.
