Thought for today

“I have called upon You, for You will hear me, O God.” (Psalm 17:6)  Prayer becomes an empty religious ritual, unless we believe that God really hears us. The psalmist needed God’s help as he faced his enemies. He was desperate for God to help him. Most all of us endeavor to pray when we become desperate enough. We may not be sure that God will hear us, but we know it’s worth a try in our desperation. The psalmist is not only desperate, but he is sure that God will hear his prayer. How can we be so sure that God will indeed hear our prayers? To come to God with confidence in prayer, we must come to Him by faith. God is only pleased when we approach Him by faith. “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him,” (Hebrews 11:6). For a believer to say,  “God, if You are there …” will never be a prayer that pleases God, because it is not a prayer of faith. God does not honor doubt and unbelief. His word refers to them as sin. We must come to God by faith. Do you have complete faith to come to God in prayer? God will provide the faith for you. It is a gift from His word through His Spirit. Faith in God comes through His word. “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God,” (Romans 10:17). The Holy Spirit uses God’s Word to work faith in our hearts. Read the promises of God in the Bible. Confess doubt and unbelief as sin. Yield your heart to God’s Spirit to work faith within you.

Lord God, forgive all of my doubts and unbelief. I come to You through faith in the promises of Your word to receive Your grace and help through Jesus Christ our Lord, and it is in His name I pray,

Blessings in Christ
