What is a Stumbling Block?

Sometimes happiness is a stumbling block to the believer.
Psalms 73:3-16
We might be doing everything right, we might be living a godly life, but yet it seems like we loose out on everything and when we look around us we see unbelievers getting everything they want (Jeremiah 12:1) This happens when we look at life through physical eyes and we loose sight as to what God is doing in our lives. We need to trust the Lord because we might not always get what we want here on earth, but we can rest assured that we will in eternity and that is something that the wicked can’t do. God uses everything in our lives as a training tool to mold us into the image of His Son. He uses these trying times as trials to help us. He knows what is best for us and that best may not be what we like or want. This has really hit home recently for me because I have gone through a trial like this one in the past month or so.

Worldliness is a stumbling block.
Psalms 119:165
Matthew 5:29-30
Matthew 16:23
we are preserved from temptation through the Word of God. Jesus used the Word when He was tempted in the wilderness. This is the perfect example for our lives

Jesus Christ is a stumbling block
Isaiah 8:14
He is a stone of stumbling to the nation of Israel because they do not see Him for Who He is right now
He is also a rock of offence to the unbeliever. (1Peter 2:8) Those who want more. Those who cannot take the simple message of the Gospel

Yet we, as Christians see Him as something else. We see Him as a sanctuary. We see Him as the Cornerstone, the Rock of God
Ephesians 2:20-22
1 Corinthians 10:4 (Exodus 17:6)
