Revelation 1:9 The Problem We Face Part 1

Revelation 1:9I, John, both your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was on the island that is called Patmos for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. Here John is associating himself with the readers of that time and in a prophetic way with us. He calls himself both “brother” and “companion” in the tribulation that they were and were about to experience along with the tribulation that we experience now and in the future. According to legend and some First Century Church Fathers, we know that John had been imprisoned by Domitian. Why?John was at Patmos because of his testimony to Jesus Christ and for his devotion to the word of God. Domitian proclaimed Himself “Lord and God,” and some historians of the time say he claimed to be High Priest of Rome. John preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ, therefore he preached that Jesus Christ is King of Kings and Lord of Lords. This flies directly in the face of Domitian and he was going to hit the Christian Church where it would hurt the most. Its leader. John was the last Apostle still alive and taking him out of the picture would, Domitian thought, cause the Church to collapse. First they, according to some Church Fathers, attempted to boil John in oil. When that did not kill him they placed him on the island of Patmos. John had seen great suffering and tribulation for Jesus. He was ready to give His life for the truth. He suffered for the Kingdom of God. Not some physical Kingdom on this earth. Not a kingdom that those in the various Christian denominations would have you believe. This Kingdom is not made of hands. This Kingdom is made in Heaven. This Kingdom will not originate on earth. It will COME to earth. Daniel 2:44-45And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever. Inasmuch as you saw that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold—the great God has made known to the king what will come to pass after this. The dream is certain, and its interpretation is sure.”Matthew 16:18And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.John knew this with all his being and he was prepared to defend this message with his life. My question to this is:Would we do the same?We are surrounded by lies straight from hell. Music, movies, news, almost all kinds of entertainment are infused with the Satanic agenda. The lie that has existed since the beginning. It surrounds us. It is in every aspect of our society and it has two aims 1. To reject the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. 2. To remove all aspects of Christianity in society. We have had it way too easy in America and that has been a blessing and a curse. I firmly believe we have become physically and spiritually lazy because of this. We have enjoyed our freedom, our place in society. Give us our jobs, our income, our entertainment, our Church services and we are happy. We have allowed too many things to go on without speaking up. We have allowed the false system to grow without defending the truth. We are not called to grow the physical Kingdom of God. We are called to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and grow the Kingdom spiritually. I believe that we may soon come to a time where, like John, we are in a situation where we may have to make that decision in our lives as well.John endured tribulation because he knew the enduring patience in Jesus. Are you ready if that were to happen?I pray that we have the patience that John speaks of in Christ.
